re: Jurassic World Is Now No. 3 Movie of All Time; Surpasses AVENGERS Box Office

I think it was just a matter of time with Jurassic World. I think people blew their dinosaur load on Jurassic Park, and people were just tired and having a sandwich when Lost World and 3 came out. Some time went by and people began to get interested in the material again. 3D ticket sales didn't hurt either.

Why?

No. It is you who are off base. Original predictions had this thing opening below $100 million for its opening weekend. As late as the last week of May there were still some in the industry who believed it would not open past $100 million. No one ever foresaw a record-breaking opening weekend. Absolutely no one. And they certainly didn't see this thing breaking $1 billion worldwide.

Anyone that thought JW would open under $100 million is literally retarded. Literally.

It's an eye candy kid movie, with dinosaurs. It draws huge clans of families, the kids, and all of their friends. It gets multiple repeat viewings by large groups of kids and their families and friends, regardless of whether or not some of them have already seen it.
But it really is mediocre, and it's sad that the top three are otherwise really forgettable movies.

Unless you two are shareholders, it's a bit retarded to be arguing over numbers and figures. Pure banality that doesn't affect you in any way.

Be honest, did you expect this film to make anywhere near this amount? This movie was getting bashed badly when that first trailer was released. NO one could have predicted this. 1.5 billion is craziness.
I absolutely did, and said as much in a thread several months ago. I'm not sure what like of thinking you're going with, but there was no way in hell this movie wasn't going to be a mega hit, no matter what the reviews about it said.
For example, I saw it and thought it was overly stupid in a lot of parts. But I still thought it was great and really liked it because dinosaurs. And it's directly in the "mindless summer blockbuster" wheelhouse. And that's not even counting things like high ticket prices and 3D/IMAX.
IMO, if you didn't expect it to fairly easily eclipse a billion and possibly even make a run at Furious 7/Avengers, then you were being incredibly shortsighted.

This. I thought if anything got close to Star Wars this year it would be JW or AoU. Clearly AoU didn't have legs however.
Star Wars will break 2 billion. Easily.

I thought it was pretty decent, but not deserving of this spot. Can't believe how people went apeshit over this.

Wonderful. So we get more fakish, cartooney special effects coming to cinemas near us.

jw is better than that avatar crap. How that is number one is beyond me.

1. Dinosaurs
2. Much beloved original film
3. Chance at Redemption for the series, after the sequels
4. "Event"-like
5. PG-13, Hits all of the age bands kind of thing
It's a perfect storm for a film like that. But yeah it wasn't anything special.

At this point it should be no surprise that the top grossing films are not universally critically acclaimed films.

Hits all of the age bands kind of thing
