I am 44 and have memories of my mom and dad watching Dallas when I was little. I never really knew what was going on and my brother got me to watch it.

OH MY GOD how Jr Ewing is truly one of a kind.

I was in my mid teens when Dallas came out and it was must see TV. Night time Soaps (which is what it was) was a new thing and JR was the GOAT of villains. I was a huge JR fan. That show would have sucked without him. I also had a major crush on Victoria Principal. (Thank goodness for her Playboy pictures..Ha)

Dallas' greatest moment:

"So I gave you power, huh? Well, let me tell you something, boy. If I did give you power, you got nothing! Nobody gives you power. Real power is something you take!"

I’m your huckleberry. Dallas is a national treasure. I’ve done a rewatch and a partial fairly recently. It’s amazing as a Time Capsule.

Another thing, Jock is a real a-hole. I remembered him being some benevolent patriarch (even kinda reminding me of my grandpas), but no he was pretty horrible.

Pamela. Damn classic and the wet bikini shots were frequent. the T&A was pretty wild even by todays network standards, maybe worse.

It is my most memorable scene also.

Dallas was really the first of its kind in the nighttime soap/drama category. There was something for everyone especially the first several years of the show. It got worn out towards the end, but it was great television with the original cast.

Hagman as J.R. is an all time character and the gold standard for TV villains.

I think it was Sue Ellen but it was so long ago I could be wrong. I remember what a big deal it was at the time though.

It was her sister, Kristen, played by Mary Crosby

one of the best tv villains of all time.

the fact that JR was played by the same guy who played Tony Nelson in I Dream Of Jeannie is pretty wild.

We never said let’s watch Dallas, we always said “let’s watch JR.”

EDIT: Spoiler Alert!

Kristin was a great villain. She moves in with her sister’s family, has an affair with her sister’s husband who then basically whores her out to his powerful friends. When things start going south with her brother-in-law, Kristin tries to kill him and frames her sister; gaslighting her into believing she shot her own husband. Once it’s revealed that Kristen was the shooter, she avoids jail time by convincing JR she was carrying his baby.
That was some good TV.

Ooh, I had forgotten, but my cousin reminded me that even in death Kristen continued to ramp up the drama. Pam and Bobby adopted Kristen’s son, who wasn’t actually JR’s. She blackmailed JR’s cronies with it’s your baby. Which led to a who actually killed Kristen? JR?? The real baby daddy??
Remember she was found dead floating in the Southfork pool.

I think a lot of people forgot that about Jock. One due to his relatively short time on the show and two because people got the characters crossed with Clayton who was more like Bobby where Jock was more JR.

No one will ever be able to come close to being JR as Larry Hagman was THE JR Ewing.

But can you imagine a revised Dallas on HBO or AppleTV?

I think it could be similar to how the Shogun remake compares to the first Shogun miniseries. It doesn't take away of how good the original was, but is so much better in many ways.
