Don't read if you don't want to be spoilered!!!
IMDB shows him in all episodes next season, so he is probably not dead unless they are going to turn into Lost with flashbacks.

I thought about whether he actually jumped, but since they didn't show him jumping I assumed they were just messing with us. What does he have to kill himself about? Because of writer's block? That's stupid.
Oh, and how exactly are you supposed to kill yourself by jumping two feet into the water? I know the river is full of currents and very difficult to swim, but seems like it would be easy to change your mind and start screaming for help.

Have they already filmed a second season?

Given his weight and shape, he would probably drown pretty quickly.

I would think he would be more likely to float.

This I could understand.
Just seems like that is a long slow way to die. Lots of thrashing about etc. Why not just jump off a building.

Well, because he didn't do it. They were just messing with us.

watch the episode again, they clearly set it up for a suicide in the end.

No, they haven't even started casting for season 2 yet per the Long Red Haired dude.
Not even close to starting the filming of season 2.
IMDB could be wrong but in most cases they get it right for returning stars.

No doubt. From the "Will will all be judged, and found wanting" comment to the hitting up the "standard" N.O. attractions. It was like watching a Saints game. Camera footage of:
1. French Quarter
2. Cafe Du Mond
3. Street musician
4. Ferry
etc
(did I miss him on the street car?)

i dont understand why he would kill himself, i just dont get it

I don't disagree that it certainly appears a suicide from every angle.
Just pointed out that IMDB lists him in all of season 2, so they may have been messing with us.
In the past with cliffhangers when I have cheated and checked IMDB, they have been right about returning cast.

Well he left Mardi Gras early in the last episode and his wife discovered him the next day passed out drunk on the porch. Obviously they are implying that he is depressed. Whether you consider that good enough writing or not is up to you.
Also I haven't seen the newest episode yet I may be missing on some facts

A. He owes a book on a subject he does not want to write about or money he doesn't have.
B. Anyone from New Orleans experienced depression back then.
C. Could have a history of depression we have not seen yet.
D. People kill themselves all the time for things other people wouldn't be bothered in the least by. We are all wired differently.
Now, they pushed the money as a problem, but with him teaching at Tulane and the wife an attorney, I just don't quite buy money being a problem.

Listening to Goodman breathe is depressing.

Can I just finally climb on the bandwagon of the "NOTHING EVERY HAPPENS ON TREME!" posters?
I think if it wasn't the season finale next week I would stop watching.
False start plots for the season:
1. Damon (or whatever his name is) died in jail . . . somewhere . . . somehow . . . his family doesn't want to know. For some reason he or someone put down his cousin's name . . . but we don't know why. Slim Charles appears and is discarded.
2. John Goodman is pretentious, now hates Mardi Gras and has writer's block.
3. Davis was going to run for city council . . . but then . . . nothing. Can't find job. Hates his gay neighbors, but they're alright, so he likes them. Has strippers move in neighborhood.
4. The chief made a suit. Wanted to open the projects, got his arse kicked, back working on suit.
5. The chief's son plays the trumpet.
6. Antoine plays the trombone, cheats on wife, plays trombone, blows his money.
7. Janette runs her business into the ground, can't check the weather.
8. Sonny loves drugs.
9. Annie loves a druggie and plays music.
10. Bouncer from Texas fixes roof.
Am I leaving ANYTHING out?

Didn't Chief murder some kid too and they didn't ever say anything else about it?

I think he was just taken to the hospital.

No Treme thread is complete without someone bitching about it.

I think more time is passing that it seems on the show. Like weeks between some episodes.
He hasn't been depressed for a week, but for many weeks. He wasn't exactly chipper at the beginning of the show either.
Many people did kill themselves after Katrina, usually facing some pretty fricked up situations - loss of home, job, family members...
I don't know what Goodman is so depressed about - at least to the point of suicide. He still has his old job, fully functioning home and his family. If he's really that messed up over the city and would do that to his family, then the world is better off without him. F that F'ing F!
The chef has a better case to kill herself. Her life has gone to hell. At least she looks like she's going to do something smart and move to a better opportunity..
Glad the season ends next week. I'm tired of this show and just seeing it through the end of the season. Next week will have to be something special for me to come back for Season 2.

Check my posts. I have not complained about it until now. Last night my wife watched the show for the first time and I found I could explain each of the characters with one sentence.
