This may have been discussed in the past, but I'm new to this within the last 6 months or so.

In a one on one battle, let's say something along the lines of Bronn's fight for Tyrion's trial by combat in the Vale, who wins this battle? Let's separate it into two answers, a battle with 2 handed Jamie, and a battle with one handed Jamie.

I honestly think Bronn takes both of them. He's not the swordsman that Jamie was when he had both hands, but I think he is more wiley and cunning than Jamie. He would have found a way to best him in whatever environment they found themselves in.

Jamie before he lost his hand beats Bronn.

Jamie after he lost his hand gets destroyed by Bronn.

You know /thread is used a lot. But I think it is acceptable in this case.

That cut and dry you think? Bronn's ability to identify a situation and surroundings like he did in the Vale to best a foe would not have been able to overcome Jamie admittedly superior swordsmanship?

I like your argument, but from everything I know from the books and the show, Jamie was a superior swordsman to 99% of Westeros. Hell, Bronn may have just been an above average hedge knight when it comes to his abilities.

Jaime is not without his own "street smarts" and he was a world class swordsman. If both were at 100%, he has the edge.

On the other hand (no pun intended), we've seen Bronn try to train one-handed Jaime. Bronn wins that one all day every day and twice on Sunday.

Before he lost his hand Jamie was considered to be one of the greatest Knights in Westeros so Bronn wouldn't be comparable.
Now Bronn could easily take out current Jamie.

Yes. And you should feel dumb for asking.

The better hypothetical is Drogo vs Mountain.

Jaime is a very smart fighter. He doesn't toy around with opponents, he could've toyed with Jory Cassel (think that was his last name) in season 1 when him and Ned fought. But instead, he saw an opening and took it, and killed him. Jaime was considered the best 2-4 swords of Westeros at the time. Jaime would win, but that's not to say Bronn wouldn't put up a helluva fight.

Bronn is a great swardsman. He is also cunning, but he usually beats the knights because they are either too slow, or too honor bound. Doing what it takes to win is his thing.

Jamie isn't too slow, and he isn't too honor bound to do what it takes to win (just threatened to throw a baby into a castle, pushed Bran out a fricking window)

2 handed Jamie wins.

1 handed Jamie obviously loses. All signs point to him being bad as sword fighting. Which is sorta fricking lame.

Dude, try throwing a football with your off-hand. It's awkward as well. Sword-fighting would be a similar situation.

a little harsh, but yeah

i'm not sure why so many want to downplay jaime's abilities before he lost his hand (see a lot of that in the ned v jaime fight). he's one of the best swordsman in the entire world at his peek.

There are ambidextrous people out there. The physical aspect of something like sword fighting is big, but the instincts, and tactical knowledge is probably more important .

I just wish he could fight, because there are like 4 people on the show who actually swing swords now.

Jamie before he lost his hand was amongst the very best swordsmen in Westeros. Bronn is capable but not spectacular. Jamie definitely wins. Not close and hardly worth discussing. It seems like Bronn gets greatly talked up by show watchers. He's just some guy that Tyrion happened to meet.

Bronn beats Jamie without the hand but so does just about everyone. Jamie has value as a military tactician and strategist, but he he has close to no value as a warrior anymore.

Sure, but trying to do that with your off-hand against someone who is also very good but using their dominant hand... no chance.

Even the footwork and positioning would be different.

My thing is why in the frick didn't they make him a hand that he could use for fighting? Like one that had a grip set on it made just for swords.

What's interesting is when you see Jamie fight (Vs Ned and Brienne) he always used a 2 handed style.

Which yOU think he could adapt a little better to his prosthetic
