You should play this intro before watching.
Before clicking it I thought it was going to a Dolly Madison commercial...

I remember the Great Pumpkin showing up in the end. So does my wife. In the movie as you see it now the Great Pumpkin never shows up, which is weird. It's such a discordant, hollow ending compared to how it ended when we were kids
EXACTLY!!! Why do I remember the Great Pumpkin showing up but when I watch it the Great Pumpkin never shows up? It sucks precisely because the version they show now doesn't include the Great Pumpkin's arrival...

I need an answer to this. I have no recollection of anything but Snoopy appearing for the last almost 40 years.

I've been searching hoping to find evidence that at one point in time there was an alternate ending. I'm finding "rumors" of an alternate ending but zero evidence.
But there are thousands of people who remember the Great Pumpkin making an appearance at the end.
Why is that?
Glitch in the Matrix? Proof that we are actually living in a simulation?

No idea. I've been watching Great Pumpkin for 40+ years and Linus always gets stood up. I always assumed his pumpkin patch had a touch of hypocrisy and not enough sincerity for TGP to show up...
When exactly was this different ending supposed to have been aired?

I got a rock.
To this day I've tried talking my two boys and their friends into dressing up like the Peanuts gang and going trick or treating like that.
Still no takers...

Does anyone remember that there used to be a Garfield Halloween special that would come on after the Charlie Brown one? Used to scare me to death as a little kid for some reason

What a bunch of assholes to give a kid a rock for trick or treat. frick man the kid is borderline extra chromosome and bald and you can't cut him a break?

I am glad you two found one another.

Not in this universe, but back in the Barenstein universe, where we are from, the Great Pumpkin rose up over the patch at the very end while Linus slept.

I was a young kid right before video cassettes became mainstream. As kids we used to see the advertisements a few weeks before for charlie brown holiday specials, Wizard of oz, frosty etc.. and make plans to make sure to watch because if you missed it that was it till next year . These days all that is lost because now you can pop the DVD in anytime or any streaming service and watch them. Aw the old Days .
Yep. You basically had ONE chance to see those shows per year. If you missed it for some reason, it really sucked. No pausing it, replaying or recording. Wizard of Oz was basically the show of the year at times.
