Awesome movie but no way in hell is it the best movie in the past 5 years. It's not the best movie of any year.

Yes. It's the Donald Trump of the movie board.

At our current pace, I expect a "Is John Wick the answer to peace in the Middle East" thread by Thursday afternoon.

Just action movies off the top of my head from the past five years that are as good or better than John Wick:

Oblivion
Edge of Tomorrow
Mad Max Fury Road
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Inception
Star Trek
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Skyfall
World War Z
Looper
The Raid: Redemption

I think a lot of people are seeing it for the first time because it's on HBO right now.

I'll say it's one of the most unique/refreshing movies of the last five years. I wouldn't say it's the "best."
Yeah, that's the case with me. I watched it because there was nothing else one, and really, really enjoyed it.

It's a action shooter movie, similar to an action fighter movie. Keanu shoots people in a far different way than, say, Stallone or Bruce Willis, or any other action hero; but that doesn't make the movie great- it's just extremely unique in style.

I know I completely hate this movie, whereas nearly every poster loves this movie. It's a matter of opinion and I completely understand, but you are a fricking idiot if you think this movie is the best movie in the past 5 years, or even for this year for that matter. You have lost any credibility you might have had for judging movies.

John Wick is so bad I'd rather watch Up, get the same storyline and not witness 100 death scenes.

I don't konw what to say about this.
If this movie is anything like Mad Max, i'll be sure not to waste my time watching it. This board jizzed all over themselves over Mad Max and i thought it was a terrible movie.

You know what I really thought was cool about this movie, other than the action, acting, and story?

It was the idea of the assassins currency that was the gold coins. They didn't directly bring it up or even really point it out but instead left it for the audience to figure out that the gold coins were used among the assassin community to buy, sell, and trade everything from info, body removal, and safe-houses.

Really cool IMO and John Wick has hundreds.

Not sure. I am hard pressed to say I enjoyed any other movie more.

But....part of the enjoyment had to do with walking in with zero expectations.

The second time I watched the film I actively tried to figure out what the heck the exchange rate was. so I knew how much things cost. He drops a single coin for a room for two nights. I'm thinking $10,000?

It's good and was the best action movie of 2014 but even in its genre I wouldn't say it's the best movie of the last two years (Fury Road was the answer to a question no one was asking- what would happen if you made one of those operatic Asian action movies (thinking Crouching Tiger) but with Western sensibilities).
