I say yes. The fact that "hip to be square" is now basically remembered for that movie says it all.

Bale was great in The Fighter, but I think this is his best performance ever besides the Prestige.

If "The Big Lebowski" isn't a cult film, then American Psycho is a good choice. I'd give the aforementioned Fight Club the edge.

It's one of my favorites, I bought a huge mirror to do the move he does during his sex scene with the hooker.

Nope that title belongs to the 40 year old Rocky Horror Picture Show. After 40 years the thing still plays in theaters. A "stage show" has been spawned. It was/is such a great cult film it actually has become mainstream. OH ROCKY!

Absolutely not. It's only an okay movie to begin with.

I don't like it but the GOAT cult film is easily Rocky Horror based on popularity over 30 plus years.

Back in the 80's people used to dress up and do all those "yell at the screen" lines way before people did it with Python or The Room, etc.

American Psycho isn't even a cult film - nor is Fight Club.

Those are mainstream popular films.

A cult film to me is Rocky Horror, Death Race 2000 and films by Linklater like "Slacker"

If I had never read the book first, I may've liked AmPsych. I couldn't get over how much the director didn't "get" the book. She made a good attempt at it, but ultimately it fell flat.

Bale, however, WAS Patrick Bateman. He felt like the words on the pages came together into a real life being. By far the best portrayal of any character from a source material.

As far as cult movies, there are others that are much better.

Big Lebowski
Boondock Saints
The Crow
Evil Dead (all 3)
Reservoir Dogs

That's just off the top of my head.

I agree

I saw the movie before I read the book, but I've never seen a better on screen adaption of a character than Bale as Bateman.

Pretty amazing considering the type of character Bateman is

It was this role that had me excited for Bale as Batman. He has the moxie and style to be the perfect Bruce Wayne (minus the psychopath aspects obviously lol) as well as the darkness of Batman.
