Will didn't want to do it unless his son got the part of the other black dude in there. Focus on a father and son thing... again.

I need to get Jeff Goldbloom's agent.

He apparently knows how to take bit characters in blockbusters and steal the lead roles in sequels from the main characters.

How the hell is the Brent Spiner (uber nerd scientist) back in this one.

They pretty solidly depicted his death.

I still don't know where the other ship is coming from. They explicitly stated in the first one that their entire civilization was on the mother ship.

I heard it was he wanted a buttload of cash Fox wasn't going to pay.

Maybe his condition with a lower salary was to get his kid in, but that is the main reason. (Wiki says it was around 50 million for two sequels.)

Well, that isn't really a plot point that is hard to retconn.

That was the President's perception based on rapid fire visions. The gist could be true; they fly from place to place consuming everything. But he could have misunderstood it being the entire civilization.

I think it is a different species of aliens from the first movie.

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in this history of mankind.

Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.

We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.

We will be united in our common interests.

Perhaps its fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation.

We're fighting for our right to live, to exist.

And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:

"We will not go quietly into the night!

We will not vanish without a fight!

We're going to live on!

We're going to survive!"

Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

the original does not hold up well at all. 15 year old me loved it but I rewatched it a few years ago and ouch.
