I have been watching old episodes that I've recorded on WGN. I remember it when I was a kid but have enjoyed watching the series. Anybody else a fan?

I used to watch it with my grandpa when I was a kid, is it worth watching? All I really remember is the old man and the big guy, bubba maybe? My grandpa loved it.

My family had a lake house that you had to pass through Covington, GA to get to. It was so funny to go through there when they had been filming and see the Mississippi flag flying outside the library (which was the exterior for the police station).

Used to watch it with my parents. I liked it but haven't seen the show since early 2000s.

Used to watch it with my grandmother. Great memories. I remember Bubba and Virgil.

Bubba was the only one worth a shite. The chief was a bunch of hot air. Tibbs was too soft. The rest were just weak. Whenever they needed something handled they turned to Bubba.

Tibbs was sooooo gay. The episode where they travel to Philadelphia, PA was his gayest performance ever.

On IMDB, it says his son, Hugh O'Connor, committed suicide. "Throughout his life, the drug problems had continued and increased. On 28 March 1995, exactly three years after his marriage to Angela, Hugh committed suicide in their Pacific Palisades, CA, home, shooting himself in the head."

May have played a huge part. Seems he always had a drug problem.

It is one of those series that predicted the rise of that type of drama - it wasn't fully developed then, and it had elements of other 80s/90s shows, like Magnum or even Matlock (almost equal parts of each) - but the acting was pretty good and the show struck a fairly serious tone at times.
Almost the NCIS of its day - in the balance it tried (although without much of a threaded storyline) - certainly the infrastructure was there. I can't see myself going back to watch it over something like Hill Street Blues, but I'm not going to talk it down either - it had a lot to offer, especially for its day.
