Playing this Sporcle quiz, I learned something new about "Friday:"

quote:

Cast members were warned not to wear red for their safety. 126th Street, where the film was shot, was in a Crip neighborhood which explains why Smokey wears blue in the movie.

I had no idea how authentic that movie was.

I got a 100. I'm addicted to IMDB trivia, there isn't a single thing I watch where I don't go there afterwards and look up the trivia on the production and the actors

Going to IMDB movie trivia reminded me why Francis Ford Coppola is one of the most overrated directors in Hollywood history. He joins a nice list...of George Lucas, Spike Lee, Michael Cimino, Richard Linklater and Lars Von Trier.

quote:

The original raw footage of Apocalypse Now consisted of 1,250,000 feet of film which is over 230 hours’ worth.

I thought Hearts of Darkness was exaggerated.

Now I know they were being kind to this bloated directionless, unorganized, unskilled, money waster.

No wonder Hollywood loves Clint Eastwood after having to deal with 70's directors who loved to burn money because they had no direction and couldn't map out or storyboard...everything had to be "organic" - he says in the movie "just point the camera and shoot man." While smoking. He almost killed people on his set.

Yeah, Hearts of Darkness is a great documentary for several reasons, including the display of directorial chaos and excess.
