I've never done an honest start to finish watch of the series but when I was younger the reruns were on wgn or something when I got home from school. I enjoyed it, funny and quick and James Garner was fun to watch. Can't say for sure that it holds up.

If you're going back that far, try Columbo, Kojak, and Beretta first.

I enjoyed it. Still the best theme song in tv history.

Well yeah, it's the GOAT private eye show

Are you going to binge watch everything? IMHO the show does not become truly great until Season 2's first show, "The Aaron Ironwood School Of Success"

A few fave eps off the top of my head:

"Nice Guys Finish Dead" -- w/guest star Tom Selleck

"White on White and nearly Perfect" w/Selleck

"Beamer's Last Case"

"Hotel of Fear" -- spotlights Stuart Margolin as Angel

"The No Cut Contract" w/Rob Reiner

"Quickie Nirvana"

"The Queen of Peru"

"A Deadly Maze" -- an okay ep, but the plot twist is classic

"A Nice Clean Bust with Sequel Rights" -- a parody of Robert Blake, star of Baretta, which Rockford creator-producer Stephen Cannell had worked on

The first three seasons are on Hulu. I'm looking forward to it.

Great series from start to finish. No bad seasons.

IMHO the 1st season, while not exactly bad, failed to properly use Garner and his gift for comedy.

It's still an entertaining show, heavy on the Chandleresque atmosphere, but as I posted above it gets great w/ Season 2

In the later seasons. Rockford could be driving a 74,75, or 76 gold Firebird in one car chase scene

Good list, but my favorite episode is the "The Farnsworth Stratagem." The part when they hit the water main is classic.

I love James Garner. His dry humor is terrific. I watched about 4 episodes tonight on Hallmark mystery channel. Superb.

Rockford lives in a trailer, can't afford a secretary, has friends of "questionable" character and gets into lots of trouble.

Is not the stereotypical tv private eye who orders a martini at the plush club with the gorgeous babes chasing after him.

Great entertainment and Angel will annoy you to death.

It's very much a product of the 70's. Different time, different values, takes a bit to get used to.

Off the top of your head, you've got nine favorite episodes of a ~40 year old TV show? That's pretty impressive. Make sure to say hello to your main man, Vern, before you watch Wopner this afternoon.

The show was so popular that the theme song was played on the radio for years. Seriously, it was probably on the Top 40 charts for a while.

Big fan and have the entire series.
Never afraid to go to the cops for help as opposed to other series where the main character dominates the show.
Lots of different shooting locations and his stunt driving was cool.
Catch the bootlegger turns.

It's a great show - you may be used to modern, threaded series format, and this was the era of episodic television. However, Jim Garner was born to play the title role, the supporting cast was outstanding for its day. It revolutionized the private detective type genre (taking it away from its noir roots, and modernizing it), and even influenced police procedural shows, clearly Hill Street Blues a decade or so later.

ETA: And GOAT candidate theme song. The cold opening answering machine messages are legendary, too.
