From a purely sentimental point of view, I really wanted Walt to have a minute or two to REALLY try and explain himself. When Skylar finally gets him to admit it was for him, I'd have liked for him to get to say that it was, but it really wasn't...at first. At first it really was about a way for him to leave his family some money after he died of cancer. By the time he went into remission, he had already become Heisenberg and he had no intention of stopping. By then, no doubt, it was all about him.
It wasn't needed, and not having that makes it even more heart-wrenching knowing that he'd NEVER get to explain that to Flynn, and that who knows what Skyler really thinks, etc...but part of me that was pulling for Walt the whole time wanted him to be able to fully explain himself and get some sort of forgiveness from his family.

I liked the finale and thought it did a fine job of wrapping everything up. I honestly wanted something darker though. I'm not sure what I would have changed, but I'm sure Vince kicked around some other ideas.
I liked not knowing what happens to Jesse. I don't think Jesse knew what was he was going to do at that point. The point is that he's finally free from the Nazis, Walt, and all the shite from the past year of his life, and can attempt to be happy in a new life somewhere.
I'm gonna give it a second watch today and see if I get any other ideas.

Jesse had already paid the 125K to the vacuum man (via Saul I believe), so there's that. I bet his deposit is still good.

Nope. Vacuum man only comes once. If you don't get in the van you never see him again. It was discussed in Saul's office before Huell took Jesse to the bus stop.

The only thing I would change is maybe the song choice at the end. I know they've played "blue" songs before so it ties in nicely. It just didn't really..."fit" to me though. Keep in mind I'm NOT saying I didn't like it, but this thread is about finding something to change.
With the final scene in LOST, for instance, the last minute or 2 you knew what was happening and what was coming, and the music to go with it just went perfectly with the whole finality of it all. I was bawling like a bitch because of how the music played with the visual. With BB, the song is happy and upbeat. I felt like it would belong more in a cooking montage than in the last scene.
But really, overall, I have no complaints or changes. I loved it.

Jesse's future looked extremely grim. Even before he was enslaved, he was completely haunted by what he had done. He was just hanging around his house and abusing drugs. Walt's death didn't free him—he was haunted by his own actions. And at the end he had the nightmares from the torture and enslavement to look forward to. Brock ended up with relatives or in foster care—there's no way Jesse could have contact with him. Jesse died of an overdose two months after the last scene.

I think that the point was, Walt had an idea that they would try to kill him. The phone call to Todd to see whether they finished Walt off was in a way necessary in the sense that of course Walt would answer and tell her the bad news and in a sense throw it back in her face. Walt takes joy in knowing that he has outsmarted people. You see it with Hank, Tuco, Gus and now with Lydia. He didn't get to throw it in Jacks face as he just shot him.

I have always assumed there was a love triangle between Walt Gretchen and Elliott that Walt got edged out on.... THATS why he bailed on gray matter.... That's why he was so bitter to Gretchen.

I guess I would have to hear some alternative endings that are "darker" to understand whether or not it would work.
I thought the ending they gave us was pretty dark... about the only thing that was uplifting was that Walt didn't kill Jesse.
ETA It ended with him killing nazis, poisoning Lydia, and his family hating him... I guess I just don't see how that isn't "dark" enough.

I think skylar at least understood him. Definitely didn't forgive him though, I think she would've embraced him a little if there was forgiveness. She definitely saw the guy she once loved for a minute though. Him looking at Jr getting off the bus was heartbreaking, one of saddest moments of series for me.
Given the current players in the story I don't think there could've been a better ending. I get that some people thought ending was too sterile, but I think it was consistent with the story for sure. It's not like it was a truly happy ending for anyone.

my only gripe with the finale is small:
BrBa has forever been great about not belittling the audience. Dexter always had inner monologue to dumb down the entire series and explain it to the retarded folks who enjoyed the last 4 seasons. Breaking Bad was always way smarter than that. So my only gripe is when Walt says to Lydia "I put it in that stevia blah blah blah"
I wish he would have just said the "do you feel like you're getting the flu? that's the ricin. goodbye lydia"
so very minor but yeah

I enjoyed most all of the ending except for the m60 wiping out the entire Nazi crew in a house, just not believable at all. I mean did they not have anyone else outside? Did everyone just stand their and get sprayed? These types of thugs I'm sure are used to gun fire and would've moved, hit the floor or hid behind something.

I think he just wanted to make it clear to Lydia when and where it happened in order to a) gloat b) make it clear that she wasn't as smart as she thought she was and he knew he was being set up the whole time and c) to slam the door on even the slightest hope that he might have been bluffing.
For Lydia, the psychological torture of it all was almost as bad as the act of killing her.
