EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital may just have found their lead gunslinger for The Dark Tower, the Stephen King novel series set in a world woven with magic and revolving around the gunslinger Roland Deschain. I’m told that Idris Elba has emerged as the front-runner to play Deschain. He would square off against Matthew McConaughey, who’s in talks to play the villainous Man in Black. Nikolaj Arcel is directing.

Idris is busy getting ready to rejuvenate the Bond franchise to heights unseen....

He makes more sense as Bond than Roland.

wouldn't that kind of make basically all of the early detta walker and roland interactions seem a bit off?

I just finished the second book last month. I immediately thought the same thing "honkey" wouldn't work here, would it?

Who would work in this role?
needs to be 50ish, scruffy, and lean.

Doesn't Eddie mention something about Roland reminding him of Clint Eastwood? And I'm positive he's described as having blue eyes. They should make Odetta a Mexican midget with a speech impediment, Eddie a cross dressing Asian and Jake a bisexual Muslim. Does that cover everyone?

Man, hollywood is just DYING to put Idris in a white character role.

You would have thought they learned their lesson with Wild Wild West.

As a kid I LOVED Wild Wild West. When I heard they were making a movie I was stoked.

Then it came out.

I was disappoint.

Viggo is who first came to mind when I opened the thread. He's as close as any age appropriate actor I can think of looks to my mental image.
