"I deal in lead."

Goosebumps.

Also, I predict an uptick in single action revolvers being purchased after this movie debuts.

I am new to the Dark Tower series. I started listening to The Gunslinger audiobook while sitting in Atlanta traffic. I've only made it through 3 or so chapters but it seems to be one guy following another guy for the most part. Given the popularity of the series and excitement for the upcoming movies, I'm assuming it picks up in a big way. What can I expect moving forward to help keep me interested?

Also, are they simply making film versions of each book or are they using the universe to create original stories?

It picks up a good bit and sets up some of the mythology for the series. It's a totally different read than the other 7 books though.

Movie is about the first book, kind of a sequel actually. Supposedly will fill out the rest of the books through TV series and other tie-ins.

King has admitted he was out of his mind on LSD when he wrote the first book. It is much much different than the later novels. This story gets better though as it progresses. Wizard and glass, book 5 I believe, is probably the best of the bunch.

my body is ready

BOOK SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They keep mentioning that this is a sequel to the Dark Tower novels....does anyone else think that is kind of tongue in cheek? I mean the last thing we find out in the books is that Roland is doomed to repeat his quest endlessly throughout eternity. ka is a wheel and all. So could this "sequel" really be the same story? The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed

The movie isn't following the books exactly. I think they are treating it like it's a different cycle from the one in the books. Some things may be as in the books, but other things will be changed. It's essentially a new story.

Wizard and glass
needs to be an HBO or Netflix series.

To OP, it's going to be pretty different than the first book. I think it will be closer to the last book than the first.

Hope it works but that sounds fricked up.

Spoilers

The end of the book, he starts exactly the same except he has The Horn of Eld.

The implication is he has changed enough to honor a friend's wishes which means the cycle may come to a close. The big teaser when this all started was:

So while this might not be the immediate sequel to the book. It's apparently the final trip around. The wheel got smaller.

Where's Roland?

I only see a pretender with blue space dildos.

NO

THEY AREN'T

I just want detta and Eddie and Oy. And I'm not getting them.

I am excited about the movie though. It's just not the movie I want.

HBO should do a parallel miniseries that exactly follows the books.

Every season can be a new king book.

The Stand
The Talisman
Eyc
..

They could've made a great movie too.

Keep McConaughey
Recast Roland because his piercing blue Bombardier eyes and family line are kind of big deal.

Aaron Paul as Eddie
Maybe Tiraji Henson as Detta
