I think Rogue One gave an extra eerie / scary vibe to the Death Star

Everybody talks about Vader's scenes. Rightly so but I think the Death Star was shown in a more evil light also. The scenes were well done IMO, adding an extra layer of scary to the base.

I mean. I also liked the idea that it could turn down its yield to essentially nuke cities and smaller targets.

Makes it way more practical than just a planet destroyer.

And yes, they had some really good shots.

The one thing I didn't like is that they never showed it flying through space. They mention it coming out of hyperspace, but it's never shown. Perhaps that adds to the mystery of the whole thing, but it's always something I've been curious about.

I can see that.

One of the best scenes in the whole movie is when the Death Star is hovering in space after destroying Jedha and the clouds and ash are rising up out of the atmosphere.

The more it marinates, the better Rogue One gets.

It makes A New Hope a better, more complete film. I would have bet serious money against that happening before seeing it. It's actually kind of amazing when you think about how good and beloved ANH is and that it was fourty years old when Rogue One came out.

Although I don't think Rogue One as a whole was a great movie, especially the first 2/3 or so......but....the biggest compliment I gave the movie when I saw it in theatre and when I rewatched it a couple weeks ago is this:

The final 35 minutes or so FELT like a piece of film straight out of the Original Star Wars.

They got the voices of the storm troopers right, they got the technology right, they got the Death Star right, hell they even got Vader's original, non shiny helmet with reddish eyeglass right.

Combine the details being correct with the final 10 minutes or so of Leia and Vader, and the ship, etc, and it felt like you honestly were watching scenes from 1977 George Lucas shot.

Maybe it was addressed in the film and I didn't see it but can anyone tell me why the X Wings took down Walkers so easily?

I meant, it looked great on screen but in Empire it was explicit about not being able to pierce their armor and that's why they had to tie cables around their legs.

I disliked that too. I don't know the explanation.

Maybe the Empire uparmored the ATAT in next few years.

If walkers can be destroyed that easily by air attack then they're pretty worthless

They didn't have (or use) X-Wings on Hoth to dispatch the AT-ATs. They only had the Airspeeders. That addresses Rogue One, but it begs the question of Empire in why X-Wings were not available on Hoth?

ETA: Did some googling and it looks like the X-Wing's engines were not capable of operating in the extreme temperatures on the surface of Hoth. The Airspeeders were modified in order to be able to operate there.

It was a different kind of walker in Rogue One. These were designed for cargo rather than battle.

They fly in space... It is cold in space.

Much easier to say they upgraded the armor on the AT-ATs in Empire vs AT-ACTs in Rogue One

Icing was the issue rather than just temperature. This was a major problem on Hoth and not so much in space.

Also I suspect the priority was for x wings to cover the escape of the transports. The base was going to fall regardless, they were just trying to delay.

On the one hand, I assume you're joking, but on the other hand, Bothans are known to use personal cloaking devices so that is not too surprising.
