I thought it was great! Started out pretty slow, but the last 500 pages had me hooked. I was unable to put the book down. Cersei and Jaime's POVs are among the best in the series IMO. Brienne's were a pain until the last 2 or 3. Didn't really enjoy Sam's either. The Ironborn chapters and the Dorne chapters were enthralling; I was totally pulled into those 2 worlds. I know AFFC isn't viewed very highly, but I absolutely loved it. Martin's descriptions were money.

Just bought

Going to rip through this one. I'm so excited.

It really is a good book. It just has the unfortunate luck to follow Storm. I agree about starting slow, but in the end it finishes really well. Like Jamie and Cersei the best as well, but replace Sam's POV's with Dorne IMO. Sam had some good information in his, especially when Aemon was alive. Dorne never did it for me, though I am interested in Darkstar.

That is the main issue. Nothing could stand up to ASOS. No matter how good of a book it is, it didn't stand a chance.

I really like AFFC too. The 5th book is good, but there were some POV's that I wanted more of. Hopefully the next book satisfies me (mentally and sexually).

I hear the Dany chapters blow in ADWD, so I'm anxious to see. I'm waiting to see where Varys is.

They do. I actually ended up skipping a lot of them.

Overall, I'd put ADWD below GOT and ASOS. Enjoy it!

I am still stuck around page 500 in AFFC. It is just painfully slow, luckily Arya finally had a chapter.

I loved the King's Landing POVs with Jamie & Cersei.

I really need to go back and read ASoS before next season. I feel like you get hit with sooooo much and can't possibly digest it all on one read.

I liked AFFC but as said, it's tough to read after ASoS. I also need to read it again independent from the others to fully appreciate it I think.

My thoughts exactly.

Dorne bored me to tears for the most part.

Yeah, it would help you appreciate it more I'd say. AFFC is a book that gets much better on reread, at least for me. Same for ADWD if you skip the Mereen chapters.

While AFFC was missing my 2 favorite characters, it was still a very enjoyable read, especially the end. I loved Dorne. If Oldtown was in that book, that is one of my favorite parts.

Ironically, ADWD did have my 2 favorite characters and I absolutely hated that book to the point I will wait for the last two to come out on paperback before reading them.

I wouldn't say they blow but they get extremely repetitive. If you read the first chapter you've basically read them all.

Other than being repetitive and stuck in a part of the world I could not care less about, Martin seemed to change Dany's character/personality for the worse. Had it been too long since he last wrote about her and then forgot how to write her? She did not seem to be the same Dany from the first 3 books who was pretty hardcore. ADWD Dany was not the Mother of Dragons.

I hated Cersei and Brienne's chapters in AFFC. It was the worst book in my opinion, but ADWD was great. I just finished it a couple days ago. I actually enjoyed most of the Dany chapters.

Bob! Come on, breh. Cersei's chapters were money. Among the best in the series so far. Her inner monologue's were hysterical. I hope Jaime ends up killing her.
