Yeah at first I thought you were just an arse trying to feel special because you like QT. But now you are an idiot if you think artistic films are all like that. There is dozens of amazing directors who blow QT out of the water with regards to making thought-provoking films.

Stanley Kubrick, Michael Antonioni, Wim Wenders, etc. I am sure some others could give you a long list of directors that QT "borrows" from.

QT has long admitted he's an homage director.

Especially Westerns, Hong Kong action flicks, all the bang-bang stuff he loves, etc. He borrows similar scenes for movies, uses basic revenge themes as plot and shrouds them in clever dialogue that is often ancillary to the plot. Almost all his movies are revenge movies like Hong Kong or South Korea - just revenge from different perspectives and people.

He learned how to direct on the fly by taking from different movies.

Everyone knows that...and he's good at what he does. But he's not some original thought-provoking artist.

He freely admits he is not. He makes movies for pure entertainment...not to make statements or leave the audience thinking at the end.

How? Only the dinner scene in Pulp Fiction is coming to mind. Snappy and smart dialogue doesn't necessarily make you think. I love Tarantino, but he feeds everything to you. He is obsessed with his smart scripts and wants the audience to take it in. He doesn't want them to think. He wants them to have fun and enjoy the subtleties. They aren't "thinking" movies.

Ok, so just keeping up with the basic plot is what makes you "think".

You must be 13.

An 8th grader can clearly though.

Well, the demographics of this board aren't 3rd graders. Welcome to the adult world.

And how does the timeline jump around in Inglourious Basterds? Just saying "3 years later" at one point in the film? It emphasizes it and makes it obvious. I really don't think there is anyone who has a hard time following the timeline of Inglourious Basterds, or really even Pulp Fiction. Try Memento if you want a timeline that is difficult to follow, but even that is straight forward at the end.

Jesus Christ, I know he may be the first filmmaker you've seen outside of Michael Bay and Steven Speilberg, but give me a fricking break. You don't know shite about movies if you think this is the case.

Lots of people who don't like Tarantino don't like Scorsese either. They're both popular on this board, but people not liking Tarantino and Scorsese may have something more to do with the fact that they don't like to think.

You literally do not know the meaning of an independent film.

No, please explain. So are you saying that non-whites are too stupid to understand Tarantino films? Please explain this quote of implied racism further.

I like QT...and love about half his movies especially Pulp, Resevoir, etc.

But I've never seen an art house cinema with Inglorious Basterds or Django on the marquee.

That's more for, Truffaut, Bergman, Malick, Fellini, Godard, Lynch, etc.

Hell, Fight Club is more "artsy" than a straightforward QT revenge flick.

And you talk about Scorcese - Taxi Driver is more artsy than any QT flick by far.

I'll give an example of something I don't like from Tarantino:

In Django, when the guy on the stairs shot the person downstairs that was standing in the doorway and they zipped out of the screen at 1000mph like a cartoon. Sorry, don't get it. Not funny. Not entertaining. Not thought-provoking. Not visually interesting. Not enjoyable in any way whatsoever. Everyone always says "you have to understand, it's a real life cartoon!". Sorry, not interested. It's stupid.

I agree with everything said.

I enjoy his movies, but as nothing more than a violent romp that doesn't take itself too serious (most of the time). He makes entertaining movies, but to me he is about as original as Michael Bay.

His movies aren't "like" anyone else's. They are artsy, and very different than any other directors movies. That's what makes them unique.

And those of you who are complaining about violence and swearing....please don't tell me you enjoy Martin Scorsese movies, because his are composed of even more violence and swearing.

FWIW i love Scorsese as well.
I asked for one example. You said "all of them, because the plot jumps around."

Not to sound like a dick, although it seems you were really just trying to piss people off, but you need to expand your horizons. There are plenty of movies out there that really make you think, QT movies are not them.

What I'm gathering, as well.

Following a plot, even a complicated one, isn't what I consider "making you think."

I'm struggling to think of a QT movie that has a complicated plot.
