(Reuters) - Video streaming service provider Hulu is exploring plans to add an advertisement-free option to its service for a monthly subscription of about $12-$14, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Codenamed "NOAH", which expands to "No Ads Hulu", the ad-free service may be launched as early as this fall, the Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

However, Hulu's owners still believe in the ad-supported version of the service and aim to use data to make advertising more relevant to viewers, the newspaper said.

Of course.

Hulu is owned by the cable companies, with Comcast maintaining a fairly large stake. What's another major entertainment platform in which the customer has to pay to watch a bevy of ads?

Cable.

Hulu sucks until it gets rid of ads.

why anyone pays for this nonsense when Amazon and Netflix offer superior alternatives is beyond my comprehension

Because Hulu allows you to watch TV shows while they're in season rather than having to wait for 2 years. It's a great service to have instead of cable rather than in addition to it. In my opinion, a DVR makes Hulu unnecessary, but no cable makes Hulu necessary if one wants to keep up with shows as they premier.

good points. I DVR everything, so it is pointless for me to get. Once NFL games are available without cable/sattelite (TNF,SNF,MNF) then I will cut the cord and switch to the Hulu most likely

Pretty simple. They have content not available anywhere else. Not hard to understand.

The ads suck but what is worse is they have a limited number of ads so if you want to marathon a show, but the end, you want to kill yourself when the family starts singing Buddy Holly.

I think its absurd that you pay and still get ads.

I am currently paying for it because I did my trail and forgot to cancel. Ive watched stuff on it though that I couldnt other places. I would be happy paying if there were no ads

I get it free with Bing Rewards. I'd still pay for it though since I don't have cable/satellite. Let's me watch stuff on my TV without waiting 6 months after the season ends.

I don't worry about three 25 seconds commercials.

I do when they repeat the same damn ones over and over and over and over.

Hearing Weezer's Buddy Holly makes me want to kick puppies and punch unicorns.

In fact, since I have been marathoning a few shows since I signed up, I am beginning to wonder if the increase is due to falling ad buy-in.

Maybe I've seen the same ad 42 times because there aren't enough advertisers.
