Right now Avengers and Star Wars are guaranteed to hit the billion mark but I could see Jurassic World and Furious 7 getting there. Maybe an outside shot for Hunger Games since the preteens will come out to see it multiple times

There's like 5 MAJOR films coming out 6 weeks apart in Nov & Dec. There will be some competition for those dollars.

the first real star wars in 30 years should be a slam dunk, but I don't know if it can match the anticipation that surrounded the phantom menace. Never has a movie been hyped like that.

Someone will bomb due to the competition

I don't see 1 year supporting that many blockbusters.

even if you thought the anticipation for star wars wouldn't be that crazy since the prequels were such a letdown, the attachment of the original cast will drive people insane...and you know Disney is going to masterfully drive the hype machine.

I think star wars kills it...PROVIDED that instant reaction isn't "another piece of shite"...so long as people are hearing just ok things about it.

I dont think it'll matter. This and Avengers are all but guaranteed to kill.

Heres a fun question: Had social media existed to the extent it does today, does Phantom Menace still do as well as it did?

Only two. Star Wars and Avengers. If I didn't think Jurassic World is going to suck, I would have made that the third.

Other than Star Wars, what are the other four?

I think so. Nothing was going to stop someone who had been waiting (in my case my whole life, born in 84) 15 years for a new star wars. It was just so surreal they were making another one. It was an obligation. Some people went a second time because they thought they just needed to get used to it

I think the anticipation was such, that nothing was going to derail that movie. had it been good, I think it would've given titanic a run for its money

eta: that was a fun question

I think only Star Wars and Avengers will hit that mark. A few others will probably make a lot of money but I doubt they hit a billion.

I think those are guarantees.

Jurassic World most likely will fall into that category as well.

I think F&F7 will make a run at it. Those movies make serious bank, and this one has a lot going for it.

Came out May of my junior year of high school. We skipped and went and saw it opening day. I asked my English teacher to reschedule an exam because we were skipping to go see Star Wars opening day. She did.

I ended up seeing it 4 times. By the 4th time I remember trying to convince myself it wasn't that bad.

It was such a huge event. How often is it big world news that a movie opens. I remember the entirety of USA today was Star Wars

Nothing was derailing that movie. I do think the poor quality impacted the numbers, but even so it made shitloads of money.

Age of Ultron has a good shot at something like $1.8 billion world wide, $800-900 million domestic.

The Avengers went $1.5 and $640.

I loved Skyfall and just looked up the numbers. I didn't know it did over a billion worldwide. The new one looks good from the teaser.
