a much better ending than what aired though what aired was pretty much what was predicted from a year out.

How do you no see that one is better if you're the studio?

I think the creators of the show had the ending planned from the beginning and stubbornly stuck with their original plan despite the showing having evolved beyond it over the last 9 years.

Much better ending.

Another website has the video. That ending is much better. It's proves the writers knew what the audience wanted and just didn't give a shite about it.

This pisses me off to no end. It proves the writers were more interested in showing everyone how clever they were by filming scenes with the kids 10 years ago than allowing the series to end on the progression it had naturally achieved.

Well said. At least now I can rewatch the series pretending this is the only ending. I'll just forget I ever saw that other abortion of an ending.

My gf legit won't watch replays of old episodes, even though she loved them, because the ending ruined it all for her

I'm the same. That original ending ruined the entire series.

Basically it starts the crew sitting at McLarens, then shows he and mother get married and flashes back to him sitting at the train station saying that the path leading to him meeting her wasn't tough, it was just life. Then they flashed several things doing a rough outline of some of the girls he dated in the past and then flashed to them talking under the umbrella.
Very clean ending, cut through the bullshite and had a nice feel to it. Fitted much better with the series' humor and feel than the aired ending.

Me too. When I've seen it on, I've only watched if it's one from the early seasons.

this ending would seem mediocre if it was the one that originally aired, and people probably would not have liked it much.
however, it's far better than the shite they aired, so i'll take this as the new ending and move on.

The end result didn't bother me as much as the execution. They spent 3 seasons trying to make barney settle down with Robin, only to throw it away in about 5 minutes.

well i'm pretty sure that in this alternate ending, barney and robin still get divorced. that happened before the last commercial break, IIRC (may be wrong), and this is the last 4 minutes of the show, which was after that final commercial break. again, i may be off. but i'm pretty sure their divorce did not happen in the final minutes of the show.

It is roughly the same exact finale. Instead of Tracy dying, they stop the timeline at their actual wedding, then cut to their meeting at the train station.
I wanted that meeting to be the end, because it was fantastic. It was corny and cliche, but it was Ted.
