Bc the people caught out would freeze to death... It was better for them to hunker down. Quad was in the know and told his son what to do and to wait for him to come for him

Because Climate Change will spare you if you believe in it.

I think he meant before the storm hits. The son was not evacuated until he went back for him and they rescued the rest of those survivors.

It's what the script called for.
See, they were making this thing called a "movie", sometimes often reffered to as a "film" also.
In it, our stars needed to have a plot, dialogue, etc. Being that the cameras and production were on them most of the time, the studio probably felt best if those being paid under contract had most of the story and screen time.
But really, I don't know. It was poorly made. If it were remade, I can't see anyone but Nicholas Cage starring.

The ending was the frickin worst. "The air! I've never seen it so clear!" so awful

Quaid went back with his friend to get his son.
You can also say that Quaid saved a shite ton of people and was close with high up people in the government. They kind of owed it to him to go pick them up in helicopters when he found his son.

I think Louisiana was somewhat safe from the hurriblizzard.
Population possibly multiplied by 3. Desperate people with no food and nowhere to go in a state of chaos. The air was clear, but the violence had just begun.

pretty stupid movie. a whole family, each with their own little battles, all end up as heroes.

Yeah. I wasn't even turned off by the premise. All sci-fi type movies rely on some far out stuff. Climate change is as good as any I guess. Heck in it's own way Jurassic Park was just as preachy (If I could clone dinosaurs you're damned right I'd do it).
But the movie was just not that well done. I never really felt much suspense that he would make it to his son in time. And even the friend sacrificing himself when he went through the glass roof didn't really carry much of a kick. Give me Independence Day over this one anytime.

They went back to rescue them because Emmy Rossum is a babe

I watched it once. Is that the one where everyone tries to flee south and the Mexican border patrol stops them?
With the actual border and guns in the U.S that scene made me lol.

This movie falls into my, so stupid its good, category. I watch it whenever its on like 2012 or Journey to the Center of the Earth.

I'm not sure but I think 2012 was even worse. Both are bad.

But then Quaid walked from DC to NYC and didn't freeze to death.

I actually didn't mind Day After. I love disaster flicks, even bad ones.
2012 was horrible.

Being predominantly Democrats, the residents of the Northeastern states were too dependent on the Government to make all of their decisions to show any initiative and evacuate themselves.
