Swan Song (1987 by Robert McCammon)

Would be an incredible movie if filmed right.

Completely agree.

Film the first book and then spin it in to a cable tv series.

I agree, but anytime somebody mentions a movie based on existing material, they always throw that statement in there. I think that goes without saying for any movie.

It's been a few years since I read it, but I seem to remember a pretty solid spot in the book that would allow it to easily be broken in to two movies.

Sure, why not. The more movies the better. The visuals from Swan Song would be like a beautiful combination of The Day After, Mad Max: Fury Road, and The Stand.

Although there was a silent film in 2005, and South Park of course, Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulu (long considered unfilmable) would make great subject matter for a major studio release (although I'm hesitant, as it will likely get an overdone CGI treatment, with Cthulu dominating the screen for 1/3 of the film's running time, rather than a few, calculated, horrifying moments) - more or less the genesis of the SciFi-Horror genre - I've always thought that someone should option the entire catalogue and make a cohesive string of stories in the Lovecraftian world.

HBO, maybe? Or do it AHS style - tell a different story every season.

I think something is being done with the Foundation series along these lines. Lovecraft, although highly influential, has never been an easy or popular adaptation (sort of the anti-Dick in that respect). Maybe that's a good thing, though. Nobody has ruined it yet.

Stuart Gordon.

I'm a big fan of Dagon, such a fun movie.

I get what you're saying, but wouldn't The Dark Tower series be more suited for HBO?

True, an HBO series would do it better justice.

One of my favorite books, ever. I remember reading it in High School. I still remember much of it so vividly. Nobody rights a character like Stephen King.

I've seen some old movies based on Poe stories that could use a modern remake. Mask of the Red Death and The Cask of Amontillado would be good. If I ever made a movie I'd want to do The Telltale Heart.

I've always been a fan of Clive Barker and would like to see more of his stuff too.

I think they did a remake of it 4 or 5 years ago...but I never saw it. Probably my favorite Poe story.
