Homeland re:Carrie (spoilers thru mid-season 5)

My wife and I have been watching Homeland (mid-way through season 5 right now), and I can't believe this show slipped through the cracks for so long for us since we've watched most of the "great" shows. While I loved the storylines from the very start (and even loved season 3), I wasn't too taken with Carried at first. While I thought Claire Danes was great in Temple Grandin and find her decently attractive, I couldn't get over the "ugly crier" thing. She has that kind of huge mouth and a sort of mannish nose, and when she doesn't have her happy face on she starts looking kind of grotesque, and it just irritated the hell out of me. However, as she soon devolved into "Crazy Carrie" with her bipolar issues, it totally transformed my opinion. The extreme levels of expressiveness that her facial characteristics enable just really broaden the scope of her performance, and I can't think of any other actress who could pull it all off so brilliantly. Now I just sit there watching episodes hoping "Crazy Carrie" makes an appearance. Obviously, she was very well received from a critical standpoint since she has won a few awards for the portrayal. Was anyone else kind of irritated by this or do the many Homeland fans here love Crazy Carrie as much as I do now?
Also, why all the hate for season 3. I've searched for and viewed several old threads from when each season originally aired, and it seems that season 3 was universally hated (and just a tip for anyone that searches old threads - the search feature here often fails you, so it's easier to just google your subject matter with tigerdroppings included in the search). Pretty much every season has a few glaring plot holes and inconsistencies, but I'm able to overlook that in tv and movies for the most part if it's an enjoyable overall experience.

In season 3, The show became an after school family drama about a slutty wife, a traitor husband, and a stupid petulant daughter all played out with terrible acting and moronic dialogue.
As for the rest of your thoughts on the show - Carrie is suppose to be brilliant but does more stupid things than what happens during an entire Spring Break season in Panama City.
Claire Danes is occasionally good in the show, but most often than not - she over acts even the most simple of scenes.
The show has just bounced around randomly until the last 3 episodes of last season. Hoping it delivers the same type of story in the next season. (If it hasn't been cancelled, haven't kept track).

This. S4 and S5 were much better tho. Looking back it is hilarious how dumb most of season 2/3 was.

I still watch Homeland, but I can't stand "Crazy Carrie" and her crying, quivering mouth face when she is manic/upset. I remember a Saturday Night Live skit making fun of this that was pretty spot on

Hell no! I can't stand Carrie and her weird arse faces she makes. Not only are her faces weird, she does some really, really, really stupid shite.
Overall I do like homeland a lot. Carrie just bugs the shite out of me.

I love Homeland, but can;t stand Carrie.
Saul, Quin and Dar Addal are 3 of the best characters on TV and that's why I watch.
But, Jesus, Carrie would have been fired, jailed or assassinated 1000x over for the stupid shite she's done on that show.
I could buy it during season 1, but after that, the things she has gotten away with have been WAYYY over the top.

I'd be fine with Crazy Carrie if the writers didn't use it as a crutch. In the last season they basically (it's been 10 months so cut me some slack here for not remembering it exactly) didn't show or make mention of her meds for the first 4-5 episodes in the season. Then bam, a whole episode about her being off her meds and going crazy, then no mention or showing of meds for the rest of the season.

Carrie is a microcosm of the whole show: Bi-Polar. It's maddening because at its best, it's really, really great. When they waste time on Crazy Carrie, it's really, really bad.
The Finale of Season 4 is, in my opinion, the worst season finale of a TV show in History. Utterly terrible.

i find when people say they cant stand a character, that person is usually a good actor/actress. You are supposed to illicit a feeling toward them, good or bad. That means they are good at what they are doing.

The craziness is over utilized. Anyone having continual issues reaching those depths would be lucky to work retail much less CIA. It would be better had they kept it hidden more like a closet alcoholic. She could walk the line between brilliant and crazy like so many with great intelligence.
