Watch the Z Boys documentary first, and see how close Ledger came to the real person with his performance. After seeing it, my wife had to tell me that I'd just seen Ledger. Couldn't tell that it was him.

I did kind of like him in Lords of Dogtown, but his best role outside of the Dark Knight is A Knight's Tale. I agree with the OP.
