Yes, because Batman fanboys would have loved the movie anyway and would have kept going to see it.

Nothing about Ledger dying made me go see TDK. Batman Begins is great and no one died in that one.

Now Ledger's Joker isn't the greatest performance ever, but definitely for a comic book movie it is.

Best performance in a comic book movie. I could agree with that.

As far as better characters, there are too many to list. Pick a movie:

- Jack N. in One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest
- Most of the major characters in Godfather
- Dustin H. in Rainman
- Billy Bob in Slingblade

Those are totally random and completely off the top of my head. If I had time, I could list at least a hundred that are better than Ledger as the freaking Joker.

I read that it was based on Johnny Rotten. I didnt see anything about it based on the Crow. The similar makeup would have been due to the makeup artists no Ledger

His performance was being touted before he died as Oscar worthy. Pay attention.

This is true but also it is a fact that the Academy doesn't like comic book movies. I think his chances of being nominated for an Oscar would be higher than the norm being he did such a great job but as for winning I don't think the Academy would have given him the Oscar. It isn't their style and I think they made allowances this time due to his death and the immediate popularity of this movie due to his death.

Good point and equally good list. I will also add Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mocking Bird".

Solid list. I've never been a huge fan of the Godfathers though so I gotta drop them. Maybe it's cause I grew up in a quaint house with a white picket fence in a quiet neighborhood but I just could never believe anything about that movie.

Guys I'd add to the list are:

-Pacino in "Scent of a Woman" - Farrari and tango scenes are still two of my all-time favorites
-Daniel Day Lewis in "Gangs of New York" - Arguably the biggest badass in movie history and one of the best performances ever
-Nicholson in "The Departed" - He and Dicaprio made that movie
-Dicaprio in basically anything after "Titanic" - Man has this kid impressed me; thought he was just some pretty boy actor but the guy has been great in everything since "Titanic" (Catch me if you can, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, Gangs of New York, The Departed)

I mean the director/producers/screenwriters all had a hand in the vision that is the joker.
He did very good, but it wasn't all him.

Uh, the same goes for any other character portrayed on screen.
