Playlist (with links in case you don;t know the song) will be below but story first.
I have an older sister that would be about Quill's mom's age...maybe a bit younger, and she shared the music she loved with me in much the same way so that story always resonated with me from the first movie. Plus, the music she liked was very similar so I have a ton of that type of music in my catalog. So after the first movie I sat down and tried to figure out what might be on the second cassette. This was my list I came up with with no idea of the story Gunn was going to try and tell, just music that seemed to fit with her musical taste from the first tape. My family and I have played the actual first soundtrack and this one I made up pretty regularly since the summer of 2014, so it was odd to hear what the REAL Vol 2 included.
Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell (we knew that was on there from the first movie)
Mama Told Me Not To Come - Three Dog Night
Rocket Man - Elton John
Brick House - Commodores
Summer Breeze - Seals & Croft
LINK
Right Place Wrong Time - Dr. John
LINK
Baby Come Back - Player
LINK
Temptation Eyes - Grass Roots
LINK
Ride Captain Ride - Blues Image
LINK
Call Me - Blondie
LINK
Use Me - Bill Withers
LINK
Mr. Blue sky - ELO (Got this one right!!)
Teat Her Like A Lady - Cornelius Brothers
LINK
Dancing In The Moonlight - King Harvest
LINK
On & On - Steven Bishop
LINK
Blitzkrieg Bop - The Ramones
Love Train - The O'Jays
LINK
Anyone else happen to do this, and if so what did you have on yours?
As for what was in the actual Vol 2, I loved most of them especially Brandy. Wish Surrender by Cheap Trick had been featured in the movie proper instead of the after credits stuff near the end but that's ok. James Gunn really knows his music...

I did this.
Mine included
Ooh Baby Baby- Smokey Robinson and the Temptations
Sugar, Sugar- the Archies
Just the Two of us- Grover Washington Jr.
All by myself- Eric Carmen
Superstition- Stevie Wonder
I also included some tracks Gunn wanted on Vol. 1 that got cut. I tried to put some songs in that would reflect what I thought may be part of the story at the time- Quill and Gamora relationship not working out I haven't seent he movie yet to know what's really in it
