From the man himself:
quote:
Granny: Do Targaryens become immune to fire once they "bond" to their dragons?
George_RR_Martin: Granny, thanks for asking that. It gives me a chance to clear up a common misconception. TARGARYENS ARE NOT IMMUNE TO FIRE! The birth of Dany's dragons was unique, magical, wonderous, a miracle. She is called The Unburnt because she walked into the flames and lived. But her brother sure as hell wasn't immune to that molten gold.
Revanshe: So she won't be able to do it again?
George_RR_Martin: Probably not.

So it only applies when George damn well feels like it

Wait a minute, didn't Dany have an accident where she should have been burned by something but wasn't and her servant noticed it? Or am I mixing this show up with Superman 2?
I was always under the impression Dany was immune to fire.

That definitely happened

You think 2011 is a long time. Oh my sweet summer child. I have never been banned in over a decade of posting.

She got into the boiling hot bath in season 1 didn't she?

This isn't a pissing contest. Congrats to both of you.

From what I hear, these threads were battlefields before season three and the clear leveled threads
It was pretty bad. That's why I had to create this thread. And with the exception of one unnamed poster (mixing part of his name with yellow makes green), the MGT has stayed mostly peaceful.
ETA: a lot of people hate on coco for his strict adherence to the rule of law in the Hodor threads (he is the high sparrow of Hodors), but when the first MGT got anchored, he got it brought back to life as if he was channeling the Drowned God. He deserves credit for that.

That an she did grab something that burned her servant but not her.
Obviously we heard from the horse's mouth the answer but I always took it as she couldn't be burned and that her brother could be because he wasn't the next "Dragon" as he kept saying. That the power went to her because he wasn't worthy. Idk, hard to articulate what I'm thinking, but what do I know I'm just a Hodor.

Try to keep any references or questions about future book stuff, even veiled ones such as you made on the last page, to a minimum. Thanks

I think you have a valid point with noting that on the show she's been attracted to those of "king's blood". If R + L = J is true he'd have the blood of a Targaryen king. But I'd also like to point out that Robb potentially legitimized Jon as the next in line as King of the North too. So I don't know how that could play into the whole "kings blood" deal either.
None of that may matter. If she knows "You know nothing Jon Snow" she likely also knows about his cunning linguistic skills. Red witches have needs too.

A few things I'll drop here:
1. Arya and Jon Snow are the two described as really looking like Starks. Robb, Sansa, Bran, and Rickon (at least in the books) were more like their mother and the other Tullys.
2. It's not that Targs don't burn. DRAGONS don't burn. After Viserys received his "crown," Dany commented that he wasn't a dragon because fire couldn't kill a dragon.
3. Melisandre is on her way to recognizing Jon Snow for who he really is. In ADWD, she says, "I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R'hllor shows me only snow." I don't think that's an accident.

This is where I was trying to go on my thoughts.

i love the meme of "stannis the mannis", a name bred across various parts of the world by various people with no relation or interaction with each other

It's like he doesn't even know.
And yet we tenuously hang on every detail.

Wasn't Snow capitalized in at least one of those passages? I could swear I remember that because I knew the theory before I read it and was looking for it.

Dany IS immune to fire.
Example 1: her servant makes a scalding hot bath for her and tells her not to get in it because it's too hot and will burn her. She gets in anyways unfazed.
Example 2: she feels an urge to set one of her eggs on a bed of burning charcoals and goes into a trance watching it. A servant comes in just as she is picking it back up and scolds her bc it will burn her, instead snatching it out of her hands and burning herself. Khaleesi turns her own hands over and there is not a single burn on her hands, while her servant has been badly burnt.
Example 3: she walks into a funeral pyre and comes out unburnt, with dragons!
Example 4: she goes to save her dragons from the house of the undying. Creepy man puts her and her dragons in chains. Both Dany and her dragons become so hot that they melt their chains away. Plus the dragons are puffing fire all around her and she is fine with it.
I'd also like to add something that Jon Snow did one day that I thought suspect.
When the dead ranger rises as zombie ranger in the barracks, Jon grabs a lantern-not by the handle but around the glass part where the fire is-which should be scalding hot. He seemed unfazed by it and never mentioned being burnt.
