Good shows with totally unnecessary domestic/romantic asides. The hell?

You're into a good show; nice tight story line, interesting narrative, good writing, etc. Suddenly, the story-telling comes to a complete halt in order to cover some inane, irrelevant domestic/romantic issue. Two examples. I'm watching Stranger Things. Pretty good show but if I am sujected anymore to the totally irrelevant romance involving two middle schoolers, I'm gonna drop it after the third episode. It's boring, lends nothing to the story, and stops a good story in its tracks. One more example. The Killing is a great detective show with a compelling story that is unecessarily interrupted with forays into the lead detective's off and on romance with someone she is thinking about marrying. The hell? Why kill a good story? It's truly annoying and enough to drive me away from what appear to be pretty good shows.

this last season of Hell on Wheels sort of got derailed by Cullen and Mei's romance IMO.

Arrow

Everyone who has eyeballs hates the Oliver/Felicity crap.

In fact, Felicity was actually a decent character in the first two seasons before becoming an insufferable trash character in season three onward.

How the hell do you know it isn't relevant and you haven't even gotten to the fourth episode

specifically that show. Its not like they randomly tossed that relationship in the middle of season. It is there from the first episode

Well, I do know that either of these characters could be written into the story if need be at a later time. The detailed examination of the love life of a fourteen year old is simply unnecessary. If the character is important to the story, fine, but just leave out the extraneous shite.

There was one season of 24, season 6 or 7 I think, with some stupid storyline about a CTU woman who's ex boyfriend was some white trash dude who was stalking her. It was awful and ruined the main story.

I just watched the first episode of Shameless, and it was basically a Nicholas Sparks novel with bad words and nudity. It completely ruined it for me.
