Can you guys explain where Randall Tarly has been shown to have a bigger part coming in the show? I can't place anything about him beside Stannis and Sam talking about him
People read the casting calls for next season. The description of one of the characters is too close to Randyll not to be him. Might spoil a bit of a larger roll for him in future books....... I'm hopefull. I like the thought of that as I like those story lines.

From the casting for next season:
quote:
Father. Aged 50s to 60s, he’s one of the greatest soldiers in Westeros — a humorless martinet, severe and intimidating. He demands martial discipline in the field and in his home. It's described as "a very good part" for next year, which will be "centrally involved" in a protagonist’s story line.
Mother, in her 50s. She’s a sweet, plump, and adoring mother, and has a soft spot for one of her children who benefits from her decency.
Sister, in her early 20s. She’s a kind, friendly, and unpretentious woman.
Brother, in his early-to-mid-20s. Athletic, a good hunter, an excellent swordsman, manly, not particularly bright, but the favorite child of the father.
Father, Mother, Sister, Brother
Speaking of Sam, the next four roles being cast seem likely to be the Tarlys, a family that would be incredibly messed-up in the real world, but is generally only of average messed-up-ness in Westeros. Randyll Tarly's allegiances in the War of the Five Kings haven't been made clear, so he'll probably be staying home with the rest of the family at Horn Hill in the TV show, thus indicating that Sam, too, will make it to the Reach next year. Sam's Oldtown plot was the gun hanging on the mantelpiece throughout A Feast for Crows — after being set up beautifully in the prologue, it got all of one rushed chapter — but these castings combined with Euron's make it seem likely that something exciting will happen there. Will the Ironborn make it all the way up the Honeywine? (Also, we're probably getting Oldtown in the opening credits. So cool!) In the books, Sam's mother is cousins with Stannis's wife, thus making Sam and Shireen second-cousins, but since that didn't come up in this scene, the show will probably elide that tiny world-building detail.

QUESTION: Who rules Merreen if Dany rides off on Drogon for an extended period of time? Tyrion?

I love the idea of Randall Tarly being a big part of the story. Remember, he was one of the Targs biggest supporters as well and probably the Mad King's best military commander as he apparently embarrassed Robert on the battlefield.

He's being cast and the Stannis and Sam talk. That's it.

probably Hizdahr if he lives

which makes no sense to me. We should be seeing more of Doran's support of the Targs by now. I know in the previews he appears to threaten Jaime into joining a plot of his, but it could just be misdirection.
Last night opened up a lot of possibilities for this and the Greyjoy storyline, with Tyrion in the fold, I think he will try to play Westerosy match maker and that could involve a Martell to gain support for a usurp
Unfortunately that would mean probably Dany being stuck in Mereen for another season

ETA: I mean it makes no sense how Dorne could feel so pointles
Big swing and a miss though Dorne has been largely boring to me in the books as well. There is not a redeeming character in Dorne in the show. They have completely stalled Jaime's arc. Sending him there was a major miss even though I appreciate the effort in sending Bronn. Nice attempt, terrible execution.

The producers have said they want to get Dany out of Mereen as soon as they can.

Hardhome was one of the best episodes in the history of the show. Maybe THE best,

Would be interesting. I'm curious how they are planning on the Oldtown storyline for the show
The speculation is that the show will send Sam and Gilly to Oldtowne (since they are already there in the books) so that Sam can grow as a Maester. I'm not sure what the end game there will be, unless it eventually introduces Euron.

Well it's not freaking Barristan the Bold!!!!

Hmm. Maybe they will pick up the crackpot theory of her going east to go to Westeros
I know it won't happen in the books but that gets her out of Mereen without her getting to Westeros yet (I totally want her to go to westeros, at this point it seems like the only good time to bring her in to that fold is after the WWs have gotten past the wall or are about to)

It was the only time Robert lost in battle. Pretty much a badass.

That's what I've figured but they've been painfully slow about doing this. And I don't see Sam leaving the wall unless by Jon's decree so they better do it quick

yeah, the worst thing in the show was shrinking Doran's family from at least 2 sons and a daughter to just one son. That cut a lot of stuff out.
I think him having a beautiful daughter that was furious with her favorite uncle's death and then furious that apparently Trystane was named heir to Dorne instead of her and worse off Trystane is betrothed to a Lannister. That would have been fun, imo. She would have very clear ambitions. She wasn't there to see Oberyn's death so she probably wouldn't take the trial by combat as the truth. They could introduce a borderline insane Ellaria to later join in her plotting, but she shouldn't be the leader.

Are they completely cutting out the Greyjoy stuff this season?
Posted on 6/1/15 at 5:11 pm to TN Bhoy
no, I could swear that Ahsa/Yara was in this season...maybe Balon's death is the cliffhanger for the season

If he is recast for next year then it's obvious he'll be revived a
it's already all over that Kitt Harrington has signed a two year extension so whatever happens this season means he's back next season no matter what.
