I recently watched the pink letter theory video, after forming my own theory. The video guy thinks Mance sent the letter. I think it's Selyse/Stannis or Melisandre, but we both agree that it doesn't match the letter we've seen from Ramsay before. The guy also points out that the threats in the letter are atypical of what Ramsay is known for.

I've seen these theories before, and I think it's as simple as it appears: Ramsay is highly distraught and is trying to lure Jon into the open and hopefully getting his own men to kill him. Yeah, I think Stannis is still alive at the time the letter is written, but the best explanation is that Ramsay caught the wilding women, they ratted out Mance, and he did everything else he wrote in the letter. I just think people are trying to complicate a very simple thing. Ramsay is fricked, so he wrote a particularly fricked up letter. That's it.

quote:

Also, if Ramsay has won and has an army with him, he wouldn't have to lure Jon down to Winterfell, as the letter tries to do. Castle Black was almost defeated by a couple hundred wildlings. Surely, several thousand trained, armored soldiers could easily take it. The letter writer wants Jon to leave, thereby breaking his vows. Ramsay doesn't really have anything to gain by this, but Stannis does.

The letter writer wants to have his own men kill him. What Jon did was break his vows, so having him bring an army there will have them kill him. Ramsay has everything to gain with Jon being killed by his own men.

At least we're on the same page here.

Not sure why you quoted me twice, but
quote:

Ramsay is highly distraught and is trying to lure Jon into the open and hopefully getting his own men to kill him.
Why? Jon already refused the lordship of Winterfell. He is no threat to Ramsay as LC. He is, on the other hand, standing in the way of Stannis and Selyse's plans. They have every reason to want to install a more cooperative LC.

What does he have to gain?

He's fricked because he no longer has Arya. That's the only reason why the people there didn't simply kill him as Lady Dustin said. Once Arya's safe and with Stannis, Manderly is going to get the cogs turning.

Well, everything he stated in the letter.

Manderly knows Rickon is still alive. That fact trumps any claim Ramsay might have on Winterfell.

We'll see.
