I am trying to convince myself to read the books but reading 1.2 million pages seems a little too much of a time investment.

Bit of an exaggeration there, you're only talking about 5400 pages. For anyone with a high school education, that's not that fricking bad.

For everyone in this thread you guys should listen to the cast of thrones podcast. They cover/recap each episode and even have a spoiler section at the end of each podcast.

Cast of Thrones and the Game of Thrones Podcast by Bald Move are by far the best podcasts out there. Most of the other ones are awful.

Interesting tidbit: Thus far, A Song of Ice and Fire has a word count of ~ 1,770,000 which is ~ 3.75 times longer than The Lord of the Rings.

I was referencing the whole ASOIAF literature but still. My two degrees are no match for my ADD so I'll be sticking to the shows, Wikipedia, and Reddit which have kept me in the loop just fine.
