Only one great character scene, and that Ygritte's death.
So what? It's Game of Thrones, not Game of Being A Sappy fig. If I want to see chicks become emotional, I'd just go to Tumblr.

So being a sappy fig now means enjoying the scene between Dany and Tyrion? The bar has been lowered then.

Top 3 easily. Sansa learns about her brothers, Tyrion advises Dany to make her arc interesting, and we get conformation about Valyrian steel vs. White Walkers. And D&D finally name the Night's King.

Just watched it tonight (twice). It may be my favorite. I guess as a Maester it was just new and refreshing

Easily top 3, I can't think of anything I disliked about it.

Blackwater and Reigns of Castemere (Red Wedding) are right there with it though.

Christ. What does that even mean? And those that hate on that particular episode of BB are just dullards.

Tyrion joining Daeny's storyline will make hers FAR more interesting. I enjoyed their scenes together.

I enjoyed that scene as well. I was not impressed with the rest. Oh great, Arya is still training, Cersei is still in the dungeon, Sansa is still a prisoner in her own home. Yes, she found out her brothers are still alive, but that alone isn't good tv. They didn't do anything with it, it was just a setup for later. It may be interesting in the future, but it didn't do anything for me in this episode.

The thing I enjoyed the most was Jon battling the white walker and seeing that his sword can destroy them. I thought that was way better than the rest of the battle. And how long did it take the boat to get away from the shore. It was just hanging out there, watching the men rise up from the dead. Then, on the ending scene, it was hauling arse out of there...and it didn't even look like anyone was rowing.

Number 1 for me.

Reason being that as a reader, I knew all of the other big episodes were coming. This was the first episode where I was like wtf is going on right now. That plus the epic ness of the no dialogue really
Pushed it over the edge for me. Amazing episode

Blackwater is still the epic battle.

Hardhome is a top 5 episode for sure though

Best episode this season without a doubt and one of the best of the series. I love how the episode was really a tale of two halves.

Joking, but while plot developments are interesting and important, the buildup does eventually have to lead to something. Winter can't always be "coming." It has to eventually get here, or the whole story is pointless and tiresome.

Well, that's the point of the episode:

I actually thought ygretes death was the weakest part of the Watchers on the wall episode

Him just standing there in the middle of the battle holding her was pretty lame in the context of the show

WOTW is a great episode but doesn't hold a candle to this one

I think the season 4 finale has more of an argument against this episode than WOTW

Not really. It was ominous and foretelling, but not decisive. Winter is still coming. Maybe it will get here one day, and hopefully I'll still give a shite when it does.

Winter came to Hardhome. It still is on it's way to the Wall.

ETA: But to us viewers, winter finally arrived for our viewing.

It's always on the way somewhere. Something tells me that the eventual payoff will be very disappointing. Nothing can live up to this much buildup.
