Full metal jacket

Yeah, the first half is epic, but I liked the second half as well. I actually feel it's like two films in one. My whole family is marines and the film depicts the Corp accurately.

The first half was perfect, but the second half was also good too. It really is a fantastic movie.

Supposed to be funny or not, the entire boot camp part of the movie is some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen and it never gets old

R. Lee Ermey was basically one of two people Kubrick ever gave "improv" permission to on his films. He was always notorious for sticking to the script except with Sellers (for obvious reasons) and Ermey.

Story goes that Ermey was working as technical advisor on the film and saw Kubrick's original script for the Boot camp stuff and basically told him it was shite and inaccurate. Ermey went on to recite one of the Gunney's speeches and for the job even after another actor had already been hired.

Without Ermey as basically a co-writer on the boot camp stuff, the movie would've been very, very different.

Apparently Ermey and Kubrick became friends after the movie and used to talk quite a bit on the phone. Ermey was one of the few people that Kubrick really respected and valued his opinion.

Interesting, I didn't know that about emery.
