Laying off 7,000 people doesn't really indicate growth

Iger will get the ship righted. He has alot to overcome, after the ousted CEO tried to politicize Disney corporate.

Iger did that. The guy they canned tried to stay out of it, the sky screamers working at Disney and media put pressure on him, and he caved because he was already on shaky ground.

But make no mistake about it, under Iger’s leadership, Disney went woke.

I'm sure they've learned to stay out of political fights but I can assure you the woke messaging isn't going anywhere.

I'm trying to remember when the 3 yr low-price deal finished, I think it was Dec 31. That's probably what it was.

For those who don't remember, when D+ first came out, you could commit to a multi-year deal for something like $4 a month. I did that, and not too long ago got the notice that it would expire and I'd have to re-subscribe to keep the service... at the current higher rate.

I'm guessing a fair bit of those dropping, were in that group and decided to give out.

They lost subscribers in India because they lost the cricket.

This isn't the news that people think it is.

Dude, this is weak.

They lost users because of the cricket and I'm not even sure what position you're taking here.

What is "the cricket"?

Disney lost the streaming rights to the IPL, a very popular Indian cricket league.

quote:

So why the Disney+ drop? Iger attributed it wholly to losses suffered by Disney+ Hotstar, which is the Southeast Asian/Indian version of the streaming service. Last year, it suffered a massive setback when it lost streaming rights to Indian Premier League, the hugely popular cricket league in India. After that setback, Disney had lowered growth projections for the Disney+ Hotstar service and prepped investors for a decline, though it was a bit more than the company thought.

It would be Cricket and not "the cricket".

You act as if I'm somehow imagining this story and there aren't dozens of articles (two of which I posted links to here) out there explaining all this.

7,000 employees fired, millions lost in subscriptions, most since the service started.

Why are you Stanning for Disney so hard?

You mean the multiple links of actual news stories I posted? Where actual reporters have compiled numbers of millions of subscribers and 1000’s of jobs lost?

You mean the story that’s said:

quote:

Disney's deepest streaming-subscriber losses were at its Disney Plus Hotstar service, which is an Indian offering priced way lower than the company's streaming services elsewhere. There, its member base dropped by 3.8 million accounts.

India: famous for loving Cricket.

People say 'the football' as well.

'I'm watching the football'

I didn't expect a grammar lesson on tigerdroppings of all places.

All the streaming services are struggling.

Out of all the streaming services I have, D+, is probably the least used. Those most it gets used is when there is a new Marvel or Star Wars series. After the series is over, it's mostly used for Bluey. I got the bundle with HULU and ESPN + and those services get watched more than D+.

D+ really needs some adult shows on the platform and even if they do that, it'll be some woke bullshite

So they lost 3.8 million of the least valuable subscribers and gained 1.4 million elsewhere. Wonder how many "elsewhere" subscribers it takes to offset 3.8 million indian subscriber losses

No they don't. Are you a natural English speaker? I brought it up because Disney has a character that is a cricket. You confused me.

As in, "they lost the cricket" sounds like a character.

"They lost the cricket streaming rights" would make sense.

"They lost Cricket" would make sense.

Yeah, I'm a natural English speaker.

Yes, they do.

I'm in London and it's a pretty common phrase to say 'I'm watching the football'.

There are entire gift sets with the phrase on it.

To me, it sounds just like when someone says I'm watching 'the football' or 'did anyone catch the football/tennis/golf yesterday?'

Mea culpa.

I'll try to work on my phrasing next time.

quote:

They lost Cricket" would make sense.

That would make even less sense.

They lost cricket sounds like 'cricket' is a character.

This is the weirdest tangent on a movie thread lol.

Let's get back to discussing whether something is too gay or too woke please - that's standard movie board discussion, not this grammar lesson.

Unfortunately, This. Losing rights to the Cricket league in India would be like ESPN losing rights to CFB here. The woke movies have failed pretty bad but their streaming service is still going strong in the west.

It’s not something anyone says in the US and of course it’s a different “football”.

I mean I've grown up in the UK and the US so I don't really know what is and isn't said.

It's not my fault I used it in a way that is very frequently said in the UK.

I just say what I want to say.
