Yep, the character, Michael, is among the weakest in LOST from my perspective. The whole deception thing to get his son back from the Others and off the island was not very credible. No one in their right mind shoots two innocent people just to have a chance to get your son back in a deal with questionable characters which were the Others at that point in the series.
