And I don't see where the hatred comes from (maybe hatred is a strong word). I didn't read a ton about it on here as to avoid spoilers, but I seem to remember hearing a lot of things ranging from "it's okay" to "it fricking sucks."

But I finally watched it over the last week or so, and I thought it was fricking great. It's almost identical to the previous show. Sure, the original (especially S1 and S2) are better, but that's just because it was still new. The humor in this season is exactly the same as it ever was. IMO if you liked the original series then you should like the new season just fine.

Also, I had heard some negative things about the setup of the show, like how every episode was basically from a specific character's perspective. But I actually thought that kinda worked pretty well, especially since everthing was SO interwoven with everything else. It was cool/funny to see a scene or a line in one episode only to have it mean something completely different several episodes later.

One thing I will say though, is the ending kinda sucked. I mean, Michael and George-Michael face the fact that they both were dating Rebel, and GM punches (well, "punches" ) his dad in the face and then fade to black..?? That was kinda weird.

It's always so funny to see just how shitty all of these people are. Even Michael was shittier than he used to be.

So what gives...why do people hate on this season so much?

I should probably give it another shot. I only watched the first 2 episodes and it just seemed the writers were trying too hard and forcing it. It didn't really grab me, but I probably had too high expectations.

I think this may be the problem with most people, but even if your expectations were that it would be a solid continuation of the previous seasons, it still should've reached those expectations fairly easily I'd think.

I didn't have high expectations based on things that I had heard, but I came out really liking it a lot. And the more I watched, the more I felt like "This is the exact same show as before...just ten years later."

this

exactly this

I might have made it 3 episodes in though, but it all just felt incredibly forced to me

I don't know what it was, but it kinda pissed me off (I realize that is a completely unreasonable reaction) since I loved the original seasons so much

But most of the humor in the original seasons was almost just as forced. The writing and feel of the show seems almost identical to the original to me.

I guess you could argue that it is a bit more forced in this season, but that's kinda the point, because it has to be the way the episodes are set up. In order for everything to intertwine so well with each other, things have to be forced in to make it work.

Basically, I feel like this is the exact same show as the original run, with the main difference being the serup of the episodes and that makes it feel different.

Were there any posters here that just loved this season? I avoided most of the thread discussions like I said. But were there any people who thought it was just as good?

I enjoyed it. Loved it? I don't know if I'd go that far, but it was a worthy addition to a great series, and I found the presentation concept interesting.

It far exceeded my expectations. Just didn't think there was much possibility it was going to live up to the regular show, but I thought they nailed it.

I still can't make it through season 4

season 1 drags at times for me but it establishes the characters and some of the inside/running jokes

seasons 2 and 3 are just simply great and I can rewatch episodes over and over.

Part of what makes them great is that there is CONSTANTLY stuff going on, characters walking in and out of scenes, jokes just rapid firing, not giving you time to laugh before something else funny happens.

Season 4 just seems like it dragssss, they stay on characters longer(I get that it was due to scheduling logistics with the cast) but that format just took away from it for me.

I need to watch it again. Only gave it one viewing. I liked it but didn't love it and part of that probably had to do with the layout.

I started a similar thread a while back LINK and I pretty much agree with everything you said.

-On first watch, I didn't like it because I think I actually went in with the mindset that it would never live up to 1-3 and shouldn't even be made.
-On second watch, I found it pretty enjouyable and was pretty please with it
-I also despise the final scene and think they should have wrapped it up nice adn neat since at hte time there was no guarnatee there'd be a 5.

I don't know what else to tell you besides watch the rest of it. Almost every single scene/thing comes back to be relevant later on, whether it clarifies something else, means something else entirely, is a conclusion to a joke, etc.

There is almost nothing that is on screen in any episode that doesn't connect to something else down the road.

Also, I never realized that the chick who plays Ann Veal (her?) was the president's daughter in Independence Day.

I agree. Tried watching it. Gave up after 4 or 5 episodes.

It's the equivalent of Episodes 1-3.

There are a good bit of things that seem like WTF, but then later on once you've seen the episodes they come back to it and it makes sense and is explained.

And don't get me wrong, there are some VERY weird angles that the show takes, but it did that in S1-S3 as well, so they didn't bother me really...not to mention they later made sense anyway.

The terrible wig was my only complaint

It's out of order and doesn't lend itself well to the character-centric format.

I still liked it though, but Hurwitz is going to re-edit it like it should be and put it out that way. I promise it will be so much better. The broken time-line thing was stupid, this isn't Tarantino.

And now the story of a wealthy filmmaker who has been brought back into the booth to record new narration for a beloved series. As previously reported, Mitch Hurwitz is re-editing the fourth season of Arrested Development so that it runs chronologically, rather than in the concurrent episodic structure it had for its original released on Netflix. And in order to patch up some seams and tell the story in a more streamlined manner, it seems Ron Howard has returned to the darkened tomb of a recording studio to lay down new tracks in his role as The Narrator.

Hurwitz has yet to say whether this new cut will also be on Netflix or whether it will just be a part of the DVD release, but the fact that Howard is involved at least confirms it’s really happening.

Season 4 is absolutely brilliant, but it requires way more of an investment. I mean, AD was never a "turn your brain off" sort of show, but the Netflix season is kind of insane in its complexity. There are so many jokes in there that you don't even realize are jokes until the second time through. It's kind of exhausting.

I think I was disappointed mainly because it took the characters to a place I didn't want them to go.

It was always the story about the one family member who tried to keep the family together and keep the company alive.

Turning Michael into a full on selfish Bluth kinda sucked.
