Logan followed by Baby Driver.

It's looking to be a much better year for film than 2016 which just sucked.

I saw a lot of things I liked in 2016. Several movies were exceptional. 2017 has been a huge disappointment so far.

On the top of my head, 2016 was the worst years for movie in my lifetime. I can't remember one movie I truly loved, when I already have 2 this year.

EDIT: Looked through 2016 and here were the movies I loved:

Kubo and the Two Strings
Arrival
Deadpool

Weak as shite compared to almost any other year I can think of.

That doesn't mean the movie isn't good. Was it a movie about Hollywood and does Hollywood love movies about Hollywood? Yes. Was La La Land a good movie? Yes

This is just not true. Every single movie slightly related to show business gets crucified for this no matter how good it is, and it's just so stupid.

I can understand how someone would find Birdman self-indulgent and pretentious, but you can't watch La La Land and seriously criticize it with "Oh man, Hollywood just loves Hollywood SOOOOOOOOO much."

La La Land does so many things well. The writing is good. The themes it explores are really thought-provoking/deep. From a technical standpoint, it's a masterpiece... but it's about show business so it must be trash.

Logan was the fricking TITS!
I loved Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 more than the first one . It was the first time I saw a movie in theaters since Interstellar. Split was very entertaing, simply because of James McAvoy. Easily my favorite movie that M. Night has done. John Wick Chapter 2 was another great sequel. It started a little slow but once they got to that night party scene it took off and never slowed again.

This.

But no great comedies or dramas so far. And I've seemingly missed all of the horrors, my favorite genre.

Looking forward to the back half of the year and hitting all the indies and horrors as they make it to streaming (It Comes at Night, Colossal, etc.)

La La Land is a good movie, but if you point that out to show that 2016 wasn't one of the worst years ever for film, I think it actually proves it was one of the worst years ever.
