That is a box office record, and is currently 4th on worldwide sales this year. It's also the second movie this to top $100 million at the domestic box office

It is good to see a small, independent project do so well.

Saw that on BOM this morning. Incredible how popular that series has gotten.

$532 million in three days is impressive. I said that this one could end up topping the last one, and it's certainly off to a great start to do just that after the opening weekend.

I don't know why, but I still have no desire to see any of these though. I saw the first one, and it was okay enough. The second one wasn't very good, and then they lost me at Tokyo Drift (didn't see it). Since then I've been uninterested. I've heard some good things about the last few, but still never wanted to watch them. Even catch some of 5-7 on TV at times and they just look bad.

It's ultimate popcorn - frick physics and plot development - cue explosions and the most badass vehicles on the planet.

I'll never understand why people are disappointed with these movies. If you go in expecting anything other than Vin Diesel driving a Charger off a cliff onto a moving train, you're the idiot.

Your assessment of the first 3 is spot on. Your mistake was to stop here though. Come fast five, it has absolutely nothing to do with street racing anymore and they are just great, action filled (though most of it is impossible and ridiculous) popcorn flicks. Ill watch Fate, but probably not in theaters.

It is crazy how ridiculously successful this franchise is. Just the premise of these movies seems totally uninteresting to me, but apparently people all over the world love them. There are 8 of them already which is way way past the point that most franchises would have been stale and trailing off, and these movies just keep on getting more popular.

This is exactly me. Have watched the first three and had to stop because of how horrible the 2nd and 3rd films were and I have seen small parts of the rest when on tv over the years and I still don't get it.

I'm amazed at the popularity of this franchise. Especially the box office numbers of the last couple. I know why some would want to watch them because of the cars and chase scenes, but not at the level of box office numbers they are pulling.

From a technical and production value standpoint, 5-8 are by far the best 4 movies in the franchise.

But all of the Transformer movies are also great from a technical and production value standpoint.

I don't watch these movies, but I'm glad they're being made and glad people like them and have something to watch that they enjoy. That is the point of movies - to have fun or at least watch something you enjoy. I hope they make 20 more of them if people like them. Why make movies that no one wants to see?

I agree with you 100%. You know exactly what you're going into when you watch a F&F movie. I used to say the same thing about the second and third Transformers movies...if you went in and it wasn't what you expected, then it's your fault.

I just can't believe how popular they are. Every single one from the third one has made more money than its predecessor. I mean, Furious 7 is currently the sixth-highest grossing movie of all time. All time. Think about that for a second. And this new one has the potential to even pass that one.

Transformers is another good example. The third and fourth are arguably the two worst of the series, and they both grossed over a billion at the box office (they are 13th and 16th all time, respectively).

From South Park:

Jimmy: Look, fellas, I've got a real problem with the direction our news show is going! We're dumbing down the school!

Stan: No, Jimmy, the school is already dumb. We're just giving them what they want.

Furious 7 made so much money because it was Paul Walker's final movie and the tribute at the end was done really well

I saw the first one and took it way too seriously. Came back for 6, 7, and 8 after realizing that it's basically an episode of the 80's G.I. Joe cartoon.

Future Spoiler: By #11, Charlize Theron will convert to Team-Diesel as they race/battle aliens on the moon.

You aren't missing much by not watching Tokyo drift. You get to see one kid off of home improvement.

And that kid frank off of slingblade who looks like he's in his 20's playing a high school teenager. His accent on ncis New Orleans, is terrible

Saw it this weekend. The audience for these movies is more interesting than the people of Walmart.

I feel the same way when someone says something like this.

To say you're not going to watch this movie, and then judge others for liking it, it's just retarded. It's a crazy action movie, no different in it's umbelievability than Rocky's boxing matches, or Rambo, or the Expendables, Die Hards, or Stevan Segal and JCVD movies, or the hundreds of other popular action flicks.
You know going into the movie it's going to be over the top. If you're biggest beef is that, then you must not like any action movie ever.

I hated the Revenant b/c of the absurdity in that movie, that was supposed to be based on a true story. I was not expecting to see the stupid unbelievable things in that movie, which really through me off to liking it. Just b/c others loved that movie, I don't think they are idiots. People like different things. Glad someone enjoyed it, which is the point of any movie.

I thought The Revenant was pretty realistic.
