I'll be pissed if they force a Ghostbusters sequel after losing $70 Mill and I don't get another Tarzan movie after the current one turned a profit.

Well, they took a bad idea and doubled down on the issues that people didn't like about the idea.

And then they tried to make everyone look like assholes for not liking it, to the point of falsifying tweets to get someone banned from twitter.

frick everyone associated with this movie. Except Kate McKinnon because she's funny.

tarzan is warner bros so i'm fairly certain the studio isn 100x more competently run than sony, which first got my attention from the way they mismanaged the north korea hack/interview controversy.

It was still much better than Ghostbusters II.

well sony wanted a franchise cash cow which is why they used something with brand cache

the problem is that they hired a director and cast who seemed dead set on pissing off the built in audience that makes such an endeavor relatively low risk/high reward

she is, but leslie jones and fatty doo doo also have some kind of modicum of comedic talent...it wasn't that the cast was talented or female...it's that it apparently sucked, was poorly marketed and instead of just staying silent about criticisms or brushing it off, the people at sony and the people making the movie went out of their way to make it politically divisive

Who was also the antagonist of the film. I love how they just told the fans of the original Ghostbusters to go frick themselves right out of the gate before even getting their reactions to it. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with more disdain for its fans than Ghostbusters. Really took it to another level.

I can't say, but the people who made that turd had some goodwill built up not only from making the original, but all of the great shite the actors and writers had previously been involved with

aykroyd, ramis and murray - their combined resume is insane

fatty doo doo has been in 2 kind of funny movies, a few super turds...McKinnon has never done anything apart from SNL, wiig will cling to bridesmaids for the rest of her life and leslie jones is famous for looking like a blindside monster

agreed, what was even the point of resurrecting a franchise if you were just going to piss off your built in audience? it's pretty obvious they had no intention of making a good movie, let alone a funny movie

it's pretty clear they didn't even understand why people love the original so much.

The more interviews I see of Feig in his three-piece suits, acting so smug and condescending, the more I think Reitman secretly despises him.

the game was a big hit too LINK

The developers of the official Ghostbusters video game have gone bankrupt just three days after the game was released, it has been revealed.

Fireforge Games, the development studio behind the video game, filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy with debts of up to $12 million, Kotaku has revealed.

quote:

The game was reportedly developed in under 8 months and has received a dismal Metacritic score of just 31/100.

I was going to make a post about this today, but this seems like a good place. I do find it funny how they handle this:

quote:

'Ghostbusters' Heading for $70M-Plus Loss, Sequel Unlikely

Fairly non-specific title.

quote:

"This loss calculation is way off," says the Sony rep. "With multiple revenue streams, including consumer products, gaming, location-based entertainment, continued international rollout, and huge third-party promotional partnerships that mitigated costs, the bottom line, even before co-financing, is not remotely close to that number."

THR has a nearly identical title:
'Ghostbusters' Heading for $70M-Plus Loss, Sequel Unlikely

Lots of defense from Sony, but let's go back a few years....

Or

JOHN CARTER: Another Disney Box-Office Bomb?

quote:

Why John Carter Will Be the Biggest Box Office Bomb of the Year

quote:

'John Carter': How big a bomb is it?

quote:

Disney's 'John Carter': Why did it fail?

quote:

Megabomb John Carter may be Hollywood's biggest loser

quote:

I do find it funny.

I try not to root for movies to fail, but I was rooting against this one. I'm just sick of crappy remakes of great 80's movies. Robocop, Nightmare on Elm St, Red Dawn, Total Recall etc etc..but Ghostbusters was the worst to me.

THR gave John Carter a fairly positive review.

They were pickier with Ghostbusters.

It is, that's why the sensation-less titles for Ghostbusters are hilarious compared to "Bomb" "Fail," "Disaster," when the industry spoke of John Carter.

Ghotsbusters gets the facts and a "sequel unlikely."

I don't think the John Carter stuff is a criticism of the quality of the movie. Its just about the fact that the movie was super expensive to make and didn't bring in much at the box office. John Carter cost twice as much to produce as Ghostbusters so it had to make a lot more money just to break even.
