I did not like that trailer. Not one bit. I had high hopes for this movie, and that kinda knocked them down.

SPOILERS

From what I saw in the clip, my prediction of Viola Davis as Maj. Anderson being a horrible idea seems like it is coming true. "You really don't see them as children do you?"

Maj. Anderson is more of a jerk than Col. Graff. The character cares solely about "the game," that is it. If they go the whole "feel sorry for them" route, its gonna be stupid.

I didn't see anything about the fantasy game. It is a huge part of the book. Without it, how are they gonna explain the structures the buggers build for Ender? Will they just cut that part out?

Sadly, I have a feeling they are going to tone down the violence in this movie which sucks. I wonder if they'll just delete the deaths of Stilson and Bonzo entirely.

I'm not expecting much from this movie anymore.

I've said for years they would never make it true to the book because they would want the younger kids flocking to the movie so they were always going to disneyfy the movie.

If the movie was true to its mature content, it would have a "R" rating.

WHy? The book was pretty tame.

SPOILERS

The ripping off of an ear and breaking bones in zero G.

A kid killing a kid by kicking him repeatedly in the groin and then in the nose.

A nude fight scene where Ender beats Bonzo's nose into his brain and then kicks him in the nads.

You know, Ender really had a thing for kicking the shite out of dudes' nuts.

Meh. Lord of The Rings had people's heads chopped off. I remember when that was a huge deal back when Conan came out.

I believe the fantasy game was when you saw him tying the harness on him. They showed a few clips of what I perceive it to be. That is a massive part of the story, they aren't just leaving that out of the movie.

No, that is The Battle Room.

The Fantasy Game involves the Giant's Drink mini-game, the playground with the wolf-faced kids, the End of the World, etc.

oh....gotcha gotcha. I had forgotten about that. Still, the trailer showed a lot, but that seems like a difficult thing to put in a brief clip.

I'm not getting my hopes up too high, but that trailer definitely didn't diminish them.

I still have high hopes because Card is a producer. I doubt he'd settle for his baby being fricked with and kiddy-fied. Much like Martin with the Ice and Fire series.

The shot of the guy tying the rope around his waist?

SPOILERS

I assumed that was a shot of Bean when Ender gives him his special little task force Toon.

Given the fact the project has been on and off again for about 20 years he might have settled for anything to just get it up on the screen.

Just looked online and apparently there's a quartet of these things? Is this a stand alone novel or do I need to read all 4?

Also, are these pretty universally liked books for all ages? Would a 26 year-old be a fan or no?

TIA!

The two books I would recommend first are Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. Speaker of the Dead, Xenocide and Children of the Mind are more philosophical studies.

The books weren't written for kids, so a 26 year should have no problem; I'm older and enjoy the hell out of them.

Yeah the sequels were nothing like the original. I liked them but they were odd.

I do need to go back a read the Shadow books.
