Does this change anyone's opinion on AI?

This movie is almost universally reviled, especially for the weird ending. I haven't seen it since it was out in theaters, but I think I might give it another shot.

1) Everyone know's that. It's pretty damn obvious from the film that they are AI evolved robot of some kind. It's why they are able to go into the mind of HJO who is also an AI robot. It would make no sense for random aliens to be able to access human AI technology centuries old and have a studio on Earth set up to appease him.

2) It is literally the worst movie ever made. And I'm not joking.

Kubrick was on his last leg. We will never know what his vision intended.

Piss poor pacing, direction, and writing. I thought it was awful as well. I didn't mind it up until him and the teddy bear get released to the wild. Could've taken it some cool directions with the human son at home, but they totally whiffed. As soon as they get released, it goes to complete shite.

Spielberg used Kubrick's personal script with all his notes in it. He had everything Kubrick had written down about this movie. This is probably as close to Kubrick's vision as possible.

I never realized this movie was so hated. I always liked it. Its basically a futuristic Pinocchio.

I loved AI. I don't understand how someone cannot like this movie. It has a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and made $235M at the box office in 2001, so I don't see how the OP can say it is universally reviled.

Not saying AI is in my top ten or anything close, but I'll usually watch it if I see it on. I wish they would have gone more in depth into the female pleasure robots. Would have been nice to see a little robot boob. But other than that, not a bad movie.

I personally think the first 4/5 of the film is terrific. The movie should have ended naturally with David stuck underwater forever praying for the Blue Fairy to make him real. Instead it dragged on for another 20 minutes with a terrible ending.

I get that the ending of the movie doesn't really "work" -- but it turned me into a blubbering mess of jelly when I saw it.
I would like to have seen Kubrick's version. I heard he wanted a real robot to play David and he wanted to project the actors face on the robot. And he was interested in taking people's faces and digitally manipulating them so they looked "fake" and using them for the robots.

Me too.

I've always enjoyed it and it really is a love it or hate it movie. When the robots tell David that they can bring back his Mom for only one day, I always found that concept extremely interesting, i.e. they can replicate the dead through DNA, but they die after only a day.

I think there are pieces of greatness in the film, even the acting. Ultimately, is was a failure, I'm not sure Spielberg was the right director for it. Would have been interesting if Kubrick had not died.
