Does anybody else think the Sony hack was fake?

Or done by the US government to scare people into accepting some sort of net neutrality bill?
Or done by Sony itself to avoid releasing a turd or to scare up attention to the movie?
Or done by Marvel to force Sony's hand in playing ball with Spidey and other franchises?
I just have a hard time accepting that North Korea can hack into a child's email account, let alone Sony. I don't know. I guess I'm just rambling.

I believe that the hack was real and Sony pulled the movie, not because they were scared of violent threats, but to prevent career-damaging emails and memos from being further leaked.

I love a good conspiracy theory. I don't think Sony would destroy themselves this much to avoid a single movie. Studios can and do just send a movie direct to DVD. I do not think Marvel in anyway has that kind of power.
I too have trouble accepting it is North Korea. I put nothing past this administration and can easily see them doing this. They just happened to pick the one major studio whose parent is not American.

Would be hilarious if Marvel did it though. Hahaha

I actually believe this.

It was probably real, but this has been in the back of my mind the whole time. They could suddenly change course and say they're going to release it anyway despite the threats and people would flood in to see it, cause 'Merica.

N.Korea did not "just happen to pick....". Going back to what the Japanese did to Korea before & during WW11, they hate the Japs with a passion. I don't see Sony being the victim a coincidence. From all accounts being made public at this time, it was not just N.Korea acting alone. Many are claiming, off the record, that China had a lot do with it as well, primarily in letting the hackers work in China on Chinese computers.

How would this work? Does net neutrality increase the security risk?

It seems like this would be an awfully big risk for publicity. I would think that there would be some sort of possibly heavy legal repercussions for making false allegations like this if it comes back to them.

I guess this is sort of possible. It just seems like it would be incredibly reckless for the same reason above. Is it worth the possible legal penalties?

What TotesMcgotes said is what I believe... And Clooney publicly stated the same thing.

I'm just throwing out rather fantastical conspiracy theories about the hack because I flat don't believe the north Koreans did it, at least not without help. Though I did hear on the Diane Reems show that this has all the hallmarks of a North Korean hack. I did not realize they've done them in the past.... And wouldn't it be the perfect cover for a hacker to live in North Korea? The place without internet? Lol. It just doesn't really add up to me is all. Not based on what little we know of North Korea.

North Korean hackers are not what you are used to here in the States. They would be government trained employees working on government supplied systems, probably with a bit of tech advice and help from China. Probably better to think of them as the North Korean version of the NSA or what have you.

The hackers in NK aren't basement dweller stereotypes you think of in the USA. These guys are employed or rather controlled by the NK Government and only hack what the NK leaders tell them to. In this instance it was Sony because of the movie making fun of fat boy.

It's just an elaborate scheme cooked up by Sony PR people so they can act like it's not gonna be released. Then they'll decide to release it knowing people will go see it to find out what all the hype was about.

And according to the news, Sony has insurance to cover any business loss, so this film is covered apparently. The concern is for any future hacking & where that may go next.

Sony execs wouldn't agree to emails that paint them as racist and in other such bad light just to drum up support for a shitty Seth Rogan movie.

If it was fake, they wouldn't have pulled the movie from theaters.
It was real. Go read some of those e-mails. There is no way they faked it.

or they can never release it and collect on the insurance policy for a movie that was looking like a loss for them

Yea thats it. Its fake! The lawsuits Sony is getting hit with by the employees affected by their information being leaked online are just part of the work!
