Marvel and Star Wars are leaving Netflix as well.

All the Star Wars and Marvel movies in one place is the only hope they have of signing up anyone besides parents. Even then I think it's an iffy proposition.

I also assume this is just movies. NetFlix surely has the rights to the Defenders related shows they've made and no doubt still have licensing in place to keep making more.

I think most parents would pay the proposed $5-$6 for a separate streaming channel from Disney. They also can sell a separate ESPN related service. I think they are delusional if they think anyone else is going to sign up to watch reruns of ABC shows. NetFlix and Amazon have the built in audiences to monetize those shows, Disney does not. These movies might help some, there are lots of Star Wars fanatics out there, but I still think the adult ambitions of this service beyond ESPN are wishful thinking.

$20 for the "Disney Vault" membership where you can get to the racist content.

I'll buy any Star Wars movies. And if they pull all their Marvel content off.............I just won't watch as much Marvel content.

I'm not paying for a Disney streaming service.

If they add all the old school mickey cartoons from mid 1900's that I grew up watching on Disney channel...then I'll get it... like the runaway trailer, and early chip and dale, etc

There will be no R-rated films, and the programming will be consistent with the Disney brand. The R-rated stuff will go on Hulu. The plan now is to leave the various Marvel series where they are, which means Netflix will hang onto its superhero inventory.

The goal in the first year is to generate four to five original movies, and five TV series for the streaming service. Latter will cost between $25 million-$35 million for 10 episodes, but an exceptionally ambitious series could have a budget cap of $100 million for that 10-episode season.

Here are some of the priority movie projects I heard about:

Don Quixote, from a Billy Ray script; Lady and the Tramp; The Paper Magician; Stargirl, to be directed by Julia Hart; and Togo, to be directed by Ericson Core.

In post-production and bound for the streaming service are the Mark Waters-directed Magic Camp, and the Mark Lawrence-directed Noelle with Anna Kendrick, Bill Hader and Shirley MacLaine.

Priority development projects include 3 Men and a Baby; Sword and the Stone; and Timmy Failure, the latter of which has Spotlight director Tom McCarthy in the creative mix.

On the TV side the inaugural streaming site slate includes High School Musical, an animated Monsters Inc series; a Marvel live-action title, and a Star Wars-branded title.

think I'll pass on this

This was the inevitable pain period. Someone will figure out how to bundle this

The obvious solution seems like flexible bundling. If you can pay 20 bucks for 10 channels of your choice that's a good deal. If every one of these players thinks they are getting 15 or more dollars a month per subscription they are going to be negatively surprised - and further incentivize the people who stream illegally.

that's what we're moving to. Pretty soon you'll just pay for the 5 channels you watch

All I ever wanted, all I ever needed.

Thank God you can now just buy the fruit without purchasing the entire tree.
