Hire an up and coming director (or directors) that has a firm grasp on what needs to happen and a clear vision for the trilogy, someone respected and established but still has energy, and get it done.
Kevin Smith FTW

For live action? No, I don't. The dude had never done a live action movie before and it showed.

I don't even think Smith himself would want to take this.

I've heard rumors of the script, it having been written a long time ago i think, and it sounds pretty interesting. Just sad Disney will more than surely put their own spin on it.

His John Carter bombed so badly it cost a lot of people their jobs....think about it before you start believing Disney has some magic touch in today's realm.
What they have going for them is Episodes 1,2,3 are so fricking bad, what they produce will have to be an improvement.
Andrew Stanton wasn't the problem with John Carter. Disney's bad advertising campaign was the problem. Sure they plastered the movie all over the place but no one had any idea of what the content of the movie would be like. I have to say what I saw in theaters was far different and much better than what I saw advertised. They really should have marketing it heavily as the "first" sci-fi story. Watching the movie you could see where most of the major sci fi stories of the last few decades were influence by it.
Just curious, did you actually see the movie?

Unless they go full Jar Jar. Which, being Disney, is a distinct possibility.

They have it slated as a trilogy already then they plan to make a movie every two or three years after that. It just makes me nervous.
Disney has greenlit every single one of their Avengers-related films without a script in place and that hasn't hurt them at all. Seriously a great script writer can start from scratch and have a movie written from the rough draft to the final copy in 7-8 weeks if they focused on it. Obviously some changes might need to be made once filming starts, but outside of small changes in dialogue or whatever, the script won't take that long to get down pat.

I don't really see how they could just completely ignore the books...yes they may just be cannon to those of us that read them, but that's a lot of your hard core fans...do you really want to make a trilogy of movies that directly conflicts with what we've had as cannon for years? I personally don't think that'd be wise...
I personally think storyline wise, Thrawn Trilogy would be the best fit, as its 3 books, so 3 movies, and is only about 5 years after Jedi. Problem though is the fact none of the original cast looks that young anymore. New Jedi Order would be good, though it might be a bit hard to cram 13 books into 3 movies...

The movie itself was fine. From what I understand, the script was almost a clone of the book with some small changes.
There's no doubt he's a talented screenwriter. Just check out his writing credits:
Toy Story
A Bug's Life
Toy Story 2
Finding Nemo
WALL-E
Toy Story 3
But don't worry about his name anyways because he's starting work on Finding Nemo 2 at some point in the next year for a 2016 release.

Just give me some badass villains.
Darth Maul was my favorite but Lucas fricked that up.

hoverboards and Episode 7 in 2015. Gonna be a big year for me.

I think one of the biggest mistakes was casting an unknown in the main role. I had seen Taylor Kitsch on Friday Night Lights but, besides those few who actually watched the show, no one knew who he was, and they marketed him like he was some bad arse action star. Every movie he has starred in this year has been a domestic flop.

You know when I went to see Episode 1's 3d re-release, all I could think about was that 2-3 changes could have taken that movie from well what it was (I'm less harsh on it than others) to a worthy movie.
1. Cast a better Anakin. Seriously the kid couldn't act and his demeanor did not match the character at all. Seriously he's a slave. His mother is a slave. This kid is going to become the greatest badass this galaxy has ever seen. He's suppose to be heartbroken when he leaves his mother and use that as anger. This kid just didn't have it. Anakin's early story was fine, but his dialogue and the acting was crap.
2. The Gungans shouldn't have been a joke race. They should have made them more intimidating. Make them a true badass warrior race. Think reptilian wookies. Maybe they lost a war to the Naboo before and want to redeem themselves by fricking up anyone or anything that wants to take over their planet.
3. Obi-wan shouldn't have been Qui-Gon's apprentice. Neeson would have been better on his own. Build Qui-Gon up to be a bad motha of a Jedi. When Anakin seems him get stabbed by Darth Maul, he starts to force-choke him because Anakin sees him like kids today would see a IRL superhero. Anakin would kill him and that foreshadowing of him would have been boss. As for Obi-wan, have him be a teen at the Jedi Temple when Yoda and crew decide to train Anakin. They forge a quick natural bond over Q-G because OW was tight with Q-G and was in line to be his apprentice.
Could have built on that going into the second movie, but whatever. What's done is done.

The hardcore bookreaders are a small, small piece of the moviegoing pie. Some of you are overvaluing this part of the fanbase greatly.
This is not to say some of the books aren't worthy of being a movie. I'm just saying, its very unlikely those fans opinions hold any weight with the producers.

That definitely hurt, but I guess the producers felt that hey we'll slap this attractive generic male action stay looking guy to the film and people will buy into it.
Battleship would have better and had better reception with a different title, some small script changes, and cut all ties with the Hasbro game. To me, the cast was fine - I didn't mind Rihanna one damn bit because her character wasn't for Oscar bait and she's so damn sexy - but it just needed that polishing that a great producer could have given it.
