But the poster above me is right. "Animators" aren't hand drawers anymore. And to get the complicated, intricate shots, you need computers anyway.
DISNEY animators aren't hand drawers anymore. There are numerous wonderful 2d animators all over the world. Disney just doesn't feel that 2d is profitable anymore. Also if I was initially unclear I apologize. I was initially referring to more traditional 2d layout that involves a lot of hand drawn elements. I don't care if computers are used as part of it. I'd just like for one of the movies every once in awhile to look a little more like cartoons... Thats all.

Live action just like Cinderella. Jungle Book, Pete's Dragon, all live action.

I never thought about how he's basically a slave or that they are gleefully singing about kicking the kids arse.
I have always thought the "Every Little Bit" song was pretty gruesome though.

Isn't a Sword in the Stone remake in the works too?

Another Pirates of the Caribbean? I thought it died with Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley's exit. It did for me at least. Im pretty sure the last two werent received very well.

Can someone post this image from somewhere other than twitter?
Blocked here at the office.
At my new job for 2 weeks now, and you'd be surprised how much stuff around the web depends on twitter. I can't see more than half of images on the TD front page, and most posts I get red x's because everyone is hotlinking to twitter.
It's surprising to me how much of the internet leverages twitter at this point in time, it's actually shocking.

Which is why Disney owns Studio Ghibli...because 2D isn't profitable.
Wow, there are some very stupid blanket comments in this thread.
Spirited Away (2001) being the highest, grossing over US $274 million worldwide.
The Wind Rises (2014) made over $91 million

None of that is marketed as a feature disney movie. We're talking about Disney 2d feature films films in this thread...but please continue hurling insults.
I also see you didn't include the rest of my post
They let go almost of their 2d team in 2013.

Speaking at an annual shareholder's meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, on Wednesday, chief executive Bob Iger revealed that none of the studio's animation companies was working on 2D, hand-drawn material for the big screen. While Iger did not rule out returning in the future to the style which made the company famous, the long gestation period for Hollywood animated productions means a gap of several years before any new film might emerge.
"To my knowledge we're not developing a 2D or hand-drawn feature animated film right now," said Iger. "There is a fair amount of activity going on in hand-drawn animation but it's largely for television at this point. We're not necessarily ruling out the possibility [of] a feature but there isn't any in development at the company at the moment."
