I've had directv for 7 years now and I always call every year or two to haggle/threaten to cancel.

I called them yesterday and I said to myself, I'm not doing this bullshite where I "threaten" to cancel. I just told the guy hey im looking to get my bill lower. He asked me some questions about what we watch and says hold on. Comes back with a 50/month credit for a 12 month contract

The BEST i could get before was like 30-40 bucks off for a 2 year contract with that dwindling down to 10-15 bucks in year two and that was with a lot of back and forth.

I know its just one data point but i didn't no haggling whatsoever.

anyone else have similar experience lately.

Three years ago I called to cancel and they took $50 off my bill for a year so I stayed. I called two years ago when it was up to cancel and they offered to take $20 off my bill. I cancelled.

I cancelled my DirecTV last month even after they offered to lower my bill $20 a month and give me HBO/Starz for free for a year because I was switching to PS Vue.

I'm tired of having the fricking cable box and can just use my parents HBO and Starz password and get more room near my three tv's in my living room, which has an Xbox One and a PS4 already there taking up a shite ton of space.

I get everything I could ever wants for $44 or something like that w/ PSVue including local stations and FSSW.

Exact same thing happened to me last year. It's almost time to call again.

My wife called and they did nothing to keep us. Been with them a little over 10 years. That really didn't bother us cause we had a backup plan ready to go (Roku stick).

Our internet is through AT&T (same company) and they could not believe they did not do anything to keep us. So they offered us UVerse for $50 a year for two years and I said no. I refuse to give them any more money than I have to. And the kicker is the $50 makes sense for us, we will be paying slightly less with Sling, but I hate AT&T so bad. Seriously, they can frick right off. Yes, I'm mad.

If my parents are dumb enough to keep paying for everything I'm not gonna complain. Worry about your own shite.

No, it should have said monthly. I felt like the gif I linked when I was writing my response so it was an honest mistake. I have calmed down now but I feel my blood pressure getting back up since I joined this thread again.

I went with Dish RV to Go for my cabin. $75 a month and I only pay for the months I want (Sept to Jan). I don't have DVR but it takes care of my need for College Football.

I work for a Dish contractor and we've been getting a lot of their customers ever since AT&T bought them out. Customers were telling me there bill was different every month with no explanation, and this even happened to new customers who were supposed to have a fixed priced.

Dish is a little smarter. They've seen how people are watching tv so they've put out stripped down packages and built in Netflix and YouTube into their newer receivers.

We also install satellite internet in the area, which for a while is terrible if you're trying to do streaming, but they're about to launch a new Jupiter satellite which is supposed to be able to keep up with streaming. We'll see. That will help us stay in business long term.

I even heard dish was beta testing solar panels somewhere out west.

Hope so... I don't care what people say, I've been a customer for over 13yrs and they have noticeably changed since being taken over by ATT

Used to be able to get anything and everything in terms of credits and help, now, not so much. They royally fricked me over two october's ago when I was renegotiating a contract for new equipment and the likes. Even thought it was obvious what they did, they refused to do anything to rectify it.

I'm to the point where I'm about to buy out of my contract and go to streaming thanks to their bullshite.

They don't do free hbo for 6 months.

They do it for 3 months. that's it.

When I moved a year and a half ago, I wasn't in a contract, but was with directv for 12 years. Cox said they'd give me all the movie channels for a year for free. I told the directv people what Cox was offering, and if they could match it i'd stick with them, so they said they'd match it. I made sure to specifically ask "so you're going to give me HBO, Cinemax, Starz and Showtime for free, for a year?" they said yes. So I let them come install it, and the guy that installed it did a piss poor job b/c he was lazy.
3 months later I'm getting charged for the movie channels. explain to them the scenario and they said we don't do it for a year, just 3 months. I said I know that, which is why I asked specifically before I agreed to you installing your service at my new house that this was for 1 year. I'm pretty sure they can go back and listen to that conversation. I knew the exact date it happened.
They didnt' budge. I told them to go frick themselves. They tried charging me the cancellation fees and what not. I sent them back all the equipment and now i'm disputing the bullshite cancellation charges on my credit report, which i'm pretty sure have gone away b/c I did not see it on my credit report recently.
frick AT&shite. that would have never happened 3-4 years ago before AT&shite bought DTV.

I switched from AT&shite to Verizon this week as well. I will at no point pay another dime for anything that has anything to do with that company ever again. I'd rather not have internet if they were the sole internet provider in my neighborhood.

Not Directv, but I called Comcast to cancel my cable service, and they ended up knocking around $75 off my bill. I was secretly hoping that's what they'd do (otherwise I was switching to Vue), but I was expecting to engage in alot more haggling...surprisingly, they made the change without any kind of fuss. Perhaps they're finally starting to feel the heat, and need to keep everyone they can...

I once had Directv, and I'll never go down that road again...
