Linklater uses decent soundtracks. "Dazed And Confused" is pretty solid imho.

For soundtracks I like Malick and Spike Lee.
For scores my favorite is Hans so I guess Nolan.

Anything Thomas Newman does I'm usually a big fan of. Sam Mendez directed Road to Perdition and American Beauty, and RtP is my favorite soundtrack, so that's where I'll go.

Gregg Araki makes pretty bad movies (although they have sexy casts with really great looking people who get undressed.)
He's much better at curating soundtracks. He probably should have been a record company executive or the program director of a giant alternative rock radio station.
