In fact, when does a Bond actor get too old for the part?

He was 58 in A View to a Kill. Yes...he got too old for the part.

A lot of people say this. But he was Bond when I first started watching the movies so I always kind of think of him as Bond.

Brosnan got really old/kinda fat. Started off looking like a perfect bond.

Disagree.

The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only are two of the best films in the franchise. Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun were both decent.

However...A View to a Kill, Octopussy, and Moonraker were some of the worst and cheesiest of the franchise.

Wow - all kinds of fricked up. Yes, he was smug and campy. Yes he was too old by the time AVTAK came around. Yes a couple of the script and support casting choices were headscratchers (and none of the script and casting problems were a bit of his fault), but his films (good and bad):

Good:

Live and Let Die

The Spy Who Loved Me

Moonraker

For Your Eyes Only

Bad:

The Man With the Golden Gun

Octopussy

A View to a Kill

Even the bad films are very watchable and Moore is very adequate in them, maybe more so - but he had just visibly aged - dramatically so from Octopussy to AVTAK in just a couple of years, that it hurt the film.

He does not have a film like Dr. No to anchor his resume, and Connery has the benefit of going first. But, at the end of the day, I respectfully disagree with his being "shite" or "all" of the Moore films being terrible. In fact, Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only are 3 of my favorite of the franchise. I like the Connery films, but I don't give them nearly the premium that many "purists" do, other than Dr. No. That was groundbreaking in the history of action films, generally, not just spy films.

Whaaaatttt?

Rocking the tactleneck in his mid-40s-

ETA: For the record, Moore is 3 years older than Connery, and Connery had made a decade of Bond films, all in his 30s. Moore could have looked much older by comparison, but didn't until the very end.

Not to hijack, but which were the bond film (or films) that had the great opening sequences with the naked silhouette girls dancing? Remember enjoying those immensely in my "yute".

I've tried finding it though google and youtube searches but can't seem to come up with the one I'm thinking of. Closest I can find is Dr. No but I'm pretty sure that's not the one I'm remembering.

I never liked Moore as James Bond - he was always Simon Templar to me.

For Your Eyes Only should be towards the top of every Best Bond list.

Live and Let Die was my favorite. Meant to be a copycat of the blacksploitation films.

Dalton was moving cardboard. The worst.

Moore wasn't a very bad Bond but the writing and campiness sucked. When the Bond car is an AMC you know the shark had jumped. Took them a long while to rediem the franchise.

Moore was Bond when I started watching so I like him a lot. Also liked him from his days as The Saint.

For younger people jumping in... he was too old (58) in View to a Kill. As was Sean Connery(53)in Never Say Never.
