Soooo, I was in Cleveland this past summer and went to the Christmas Story house. It's completely redone to match the movie as it had fallen into disrepair. The neighborhood is literally falling apart.

With that said, the lamp was broken on purpose and the little sister from A league of Their Own was a terrible person

100% on purpose.

She absolutely despised the old man's major award.

On purpose. In the book, old man Parker gets drunk later that night and puts a severe arse whippin' on his goofy wife for that mistake.

Yeah it's made blatantly obvious in the movie.

I think we need to clarify. The breaking of the lamp, while outwardly being accidental- was subconsciously done on purpose because the soft glow of electric sex in the window was not her idea of a family Christmas.

Now, the using of the glue- that was on purpose.

If you watch the leg lamp breaking scene on a loop, you'll notice it goes back and to the left... back and to the left...back and to the left. Draw your own conclusions.

the breaking of the lamp was a clever allusion to the shattering of soul and release back into the universe of the spirit of the lamp, the spirit of Christmas.

You see the lamp was a major award given to the major authority figure in Ralphie's life. But it, and the authority which believed in it, were merely earthly things that you have to free yourself from in order to procede to the next dimension of understanding the universe and our place in it. The Red Rider BB gun was a clever distraction from the middle act, a middle act we can consider an opera of the garter.

It's the Christmas version of whether or not Dottie dropped the ball on purpose.
