Damn good episode. I actually didn't really like the first episode but this one was great. Mos Def looks to be an awesome addition to the show.

I'm interested to see how he impacts Dexter. If I had to guess, I see him influencing Dexter in a positive way making him get to the point of almost doing away with his dark passenger. At some point Brother Sam will be tested and lose his inner battle ultimately putting him on Dexter's table. Season finale IMO.

That would be the predictable course for the season to take, but would also make it seem "samey" with regard to other seasons. I hope they do something new with the Brother Sam character beyond the same old "my friend turned enemy" routine.

Again with the lazy writing. Dexter identifies himself as being with Miami homicide and the Mexican immediately starts bragging about some murder he got away with - including the name of the victim. The people I was watching it with just started laughing.

Is it orthodox for a detective to get vaulted to liutenant, bypassing the rank of sergeant? Maybe leaps like that happen, but it seemed odd to me.

ETA: By the way, I care less and less about the secondary and tertiary characters the more I see them on screen. Debra and Quinn's marriage prospects? Bathroom break. Batista and his sister? Let me check my email. LaGuerta and Matthews politicking? Don't give a frick.

+100. Seems like they're running out of plot points for Dexter. I'd be shocked if next season isnt the last.

Have they written a character aside from Dexter and Arthur Mitchell that will actually be remembered years after the show has run its course? The Ice Truck Killer was fine, but that one was a freebie from the novel.

It's kind of sad to think that Doakes may have been the only other interesting cop. I thought Lundy was also a decent character.

Not to mention it was forever it seemed before she was finally promoted to detective. I don't really know what Matthews is up to here but something isn't right.

It's obvious that ulterior motives are at work - I'm just wondering if a leap from detective to liutenant is even proper protocol or if it ever happens in real police precincts.

Not since Cedric Daniels on The Wire has a police officer rose through the ranks this quickly. Didn't he skip a rank to become Commissioner or something? Again a TV show. I don't know about IRL but I would think it's rare to skip rank.
